"If the band would have played more Spirited and fire up songs we probably would have stood a better chance. Dont yall know how to get the crowd wired up so they can support the football team?"
He kept on talking about it while being shooed up the stairs by his wife but i just wanted to see other folks opinions on this....
Do you feel that bands ultimately control whether or not the fans support the team?
while thinking about your response think about what bands play before kick offs, what they play when the team is losing, what they play when the team is winning......

HBCU football is horrid, without the bands it's nothing.
as for the Football teams relationship with the band,, to me .. it's almost like Theatrical music.. you know things are about to get hype in the movie because the music sets the tone... and well. it's like that sometimes in the game. but I don't think it helps that Much so that a team would turn in to rocky Balboa.. you know what i mean?
Something about 5000-10000 folks singing your school fight song should get anybody riled up....
That's a start...
alot of folks don't "get it"

Comparing the big PWC football schools to most HBCU schools, the fan participation at those big schools ALONE is enough to intimidate the opposing team. We not even gonna mention how their bands get the crowd to participate.
At our HBCUs, the fans just wanna hear the latest hip hop radio tune...and even then they might just sit there and clap. They won't stand up and get crunk...and they'll be dayumed if they cheer for their team. Our fans are too "cute" for that...

They don't know the countless hours put in to try to put on a good show or play music that has been requested just so the crowd can get hype....then when u play their songs they feel too cool to get up and cheer.....smh

thats it right there. Sum think they to cool to cheer, or to old to cheer.
whats the point in talking ish if you dont, cheer, yell words of encouragement or even wave your 10 dollar pom-pom your waste'in space.
But to add to the initial idea of the thread......when our team was introduced, there was about 1/10 the applause as when the announcer said "......now welcome to the field, The Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South!!!" The applause for the band sounded like a game winning touchdown.
I will say this tho....and the large pwcs, the fans come to participate.....most of our fans come to spectate.
