  • Let me strt 1st. i think our season is going well. We could be doing a lot better but we have new kids that have to get adjusted then we'll be fine. I've noticed that we have been getting better each week so im not mad at all! As long as we keep the focus and the right attitude this could be our best season yet (in my 4yrs of being at Worthing). its kinda early to cast judgement on bands but this is what i've seen so far...

*North Forest- good size, nice drilling band, you can tell the discipline is getting better too, just need time as we all do at this point.
*Ozen- really good sound, drill was nice, again- just need time to get that book right.
*wheatley- big improvements this yr, keep up the hard work and dedicate yourself to your band and all else will fall in place.
*BOOKER T. WASHINGTON - WE SEE YOU GUYS FRIDAY SO THIS WILL BE INTERESTING BECUZ THE MORE TIME THE SEASON BRINGS BANDS SHOULD OR WILL BE AT A GOOD POINT. BUT WE WILL SEE. GOOD LUCK TO BOTH GROUPS. i seen you guys at the Yates game and you guys look pretty good to me...so keep up the good work Mr. Knight (kabooki)lol...FRI DELMAR STADIUM 730P 10/9/09

  • so far the band that has impressed me is scarborough because of the size they have and the way they sound cuz they sound good for being about like 15 deep....and man Davis impressed bigtime cuz they had a good/balanced/clean sound wit sum power in the stands though .....ima be honest and i understimated them ..so far those are the 2 bands that have impressed me
  • Our season is up and down. We started off strong but since the game against Milby, people have reverted to old habits like skipping rehearsal and just plain old being lazy. We are getting ready for Yates on Saturday as well as UIL in less than 2 weeks. Our trip to St. Martinville was approved by area administration if we make a Division 2 but the band just isnt hungry enough. We have the potential to be the best in all areas but the kids have to want it not just the directors.

Bands who impressed me so far.

Scarborough- 15 members who have the mentality of 100. All they need is numbers. (Please dont get arrogant though)

Davis- I like the cleaner sound. I was really waiting to here Tiger of San Pedro.

Bellaire- When the hell did Bellaire get a song book. They cut the radio on at the game. A varied book from 97.9 the Box to Majic 102 to Power 104.
  • ... Thanks Mr. Joseph ( Kabookie!... lol) , looking forward to the matchup on Friday (heard some great things are happening at Worthing) ...

As far as Booker T. Washington is concern:

( ...kinda of hard to follow a band director that taught at the same school for 53 years ... thank you for paving the way and trusting me with such a legacy Mr. Bigsby!)...

Each week we are growing more confident in our presentations ( just wish we had more time to practice!) the majority of our band are 1st year or freshman instrument players, so it takes a little longer to put it together..lol ... Overall I am pleased with the progress ... just hope our supporters and fans are.
  • Well our season here at jeff davis has been going up since day one..kids are learning and there skills are getting better...
We are also getting ready for UIL, concert and jazz auditios..for state..and regionals..I think we will attend the TXSU home comming parade.. insted of PV because it "the PV A&M one" conflicks with you list of things to do....also..if lamarque is Having a botbs please fill me in folks..I would love to go to that one..as well as some drum comps

Well as far as other bands go..Ill starts from the fist folks we have seen here at davis..to the recent....

WHEATLEY (The Purple Exploison) Well they were okay .. the volume/sound has left except for the tubas .. the drummer are very well put together.. the band asa whole is very well disapline.... and there feild shows are very nice & clean i fell in another 2 years or so they will be great.. and a force around the district...

STAFFORD (The Big Red Band) Very nice sound ..VERY nice and thick..i love it when bands sound like that is like watching a movie with the surround sound cranked up to the max.... there feild show was interesting..but good..it just was different..and thats all that matters to me..other than that good job..Stafford

HIGHTOWER (Dont know the bands nick NAME..LOL) They have a heck of a band number of trumpets and the trumpets ahve a heck of a sound..all thought they are not the cleanest t-pets section i know when the time is right they will be beasting...From what ive seen in person i think there band as a whole with dancers and all is about 150-168 with out dancers and aux..128 on the dot..there lower brass is nice.. they are not over powering the band they are just right and the woodwinds are wonderful.. percussin is very unique.... there feild show was inpressive.... they sound and look like they work very hard at what they do...nice job Hightower

AUSTIN ( The Sonic Boom Box) I will say this Austin is not as bad as other folks make them out to be. They were one out of two bands that really came to play at the game ..... they have a very nice drumsection very clean... basses and tenores way to loud for me thought... I couldnt hear the snares very well.... but K.lee knows what he's doing..He's very well rounded when it comes to balence percussion and teaching drummers .. as for the band I like the colorful book.. and chants well the crunk mix..... the UIL feild show was nice havent seen yall "show style" marching yet so..I cant say anything on that...... but just a word of advise..work on the balence on the feild for U.I.L.....they will be very pickey about that very very pickey about that..okay....nice job Austin

YATES (Marching Motion) Nice drum section... tubas are banging hard...a nice big sound..i fell that this band need more time to develop.. because i feel its not fair to to pass judgment on this band whe they have had to start over evrey 2-3 years ...so next will make the third year with the same director so i will say somthing then..keep pushing yates...it WILL get better.. god bless

Okay that my input for today..ANYBODY ELES???
  • OHHH and you would have heard the "Tiger of San Pedro" at the game But I feel like its not were I want it or as clean as I want it..so yeah.. Waltrip & Westbury will probley be the fisrt the hear it... unless you see me at the TXSU home comming.. them you will hear it..

  • Oh yeah, I I have to mention this, I was at the Austin vs Bellaire game and even tough it was not a head to head battle both bands had a good day that day!

Bellaire does have a book. I think they been doing some home work not only do they have that good clean corps style sound ,but they also playing songs staright from the radio LOL. I was not expecting that from them so if you play them don't sleep on them... they just might get ya! Also their 1,000 dancers was a Shock I tought Yates had that on lock, not anymore! LOL

Austin band is getting cleaner They best song for them that day was that song by Prince It was like the whole band went into auto mode and played with a very good Tone! T-bones and B-tones was on point - was not expecting that from a high school band!

  • Speaking of Bellaire...does anyone think that a good stand book could help in recruitment. I remember when I was In a GOOD band we had no stand music and because of that morale was low....on the other hand I seen Bellaire one year marching almost 100 with aux and they were afraid to play anything. the next time I seen them they had like 30 (on the cool it looked like a quarter of the orientals at Bellaire was in the band) I bet they up to at least 75 now just from playing some show tunes.....just a thought...
