Grambling players go AWOL in protest
Advocate staff report
October 16, 2013
Less than two years ago, it was turning out better than even Doug Williams could have imagined.
He was back at his alma mater, beginning his second stint as Grambling’s coach.
His son D.J., the starting quarterback, carved up archrival Southern in the Bayou Classic, throwing three touchdown passes as the Tigers cruised to a 36-12 victory.
And they capped a memorable season by winning another Southwestern Athletic Conference championship.
Less than two years later, one of the proudest programs in college football — Eddie Robinson’s school, the one with 22 SWAC titles and four Pro Football Hall of Famers — appears to be in total chaos.
That became more clear Wednesday afternoon when, according to The Shreveport Times, the entire team failed to show up for practice, fed up over an epic losing streak, the September firing of Williams and a perceived lack of support.
The Tigers are 0-7 overall and 0-4 in SWAC play.
They’ve dropped 13 consecutive conference games, including last week’s 48-0 loss to Alcorn State at the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis.
Alcorn flew to that game, while Grambling traveled via bus — one of the many things that irked players in a year that started ugly and has only gotten worse.

But gsu in head to head combat can have three losing seasons and still be ahead every swac schoolbut SU who is behind by one or two..but gsu is going through what every hbcu has been through once or twice or five times im sure next season will be better..a good coach will.get hired next season who want this team! funny thing is other teams love it no matter how good or bad gsu is if they beat gsu its like A superbowl. At least the band doing well!!
But Grambling football players dumb as f*ck if they think Grambling can afford to fly them to football games. They need their scholarships pulled just for complaining about having to take long bus trips.

Damn.. That's foul..I don't blame the players for standing up to the administration.. They(admin.) only care about the $$$$$ that the football program is bringing in.. Administration doesn't give a damn about those players on the team.. THEY SHOULD STAND STRONG UNTIL THOSE JACKASSES(ADMIN.) TREAT THOSE PLAYERS WITH SOME DIGNITY.. FIGHT THE POWER!!!!!!!!
The sponsors for the Circle City are supposed to pay the school's travel expenses.. So, if ASU flew to Indy, then GSU should've been flown to Indy as well.. The school probably pocketed the airfare, and got buses to cut cost... Still, they are supposed to be treated with more respect than that...
