Whats up yall,Im going to be writing music for the up and coming University of South Alabama Marching Jaguar band(White Band) and I looking for good songs that you wouldn't normally hear a white band play. Im looking for more black songs(rap, r&b, funk) that I can throw in with they style.I hope you guys cant help me cuz this band wants to play 1964 music and Im not about to let that happen.PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS!!!!!

my only disagreement with White bands playing rap and R&B songs (no offense to anyone)....is that they make it sound so.... cheesy or corny i guess? like when i went to UH, granted they did play in the stone and they did a pretty good job, i think they tried to play crank that soulja boy or somethin like that, and the beat just sounded so....non....rhythmic lol. so if u do write for that band, dont make the arrangements sucky, and not to down ur work cause ive never heard it.
bruh I dont write like im White... Ive been in this game too long to write something that Im not going to feel. The problem with White bands is that their directors dont know how to write music like us black folks do, so they try to find someone can, but for most of them is doesn't work because their teaching their students to write the boring way with no emotion.
If its a white band, then go ahead and try some mixed white music. A white can blow the hell out of tunes by Queen, Lynrd Skynard, Madonna, Guns and Roses and a lot more. I would not reccommend just handing them a lot of black music so quick. You have to ease your way into it.
Im just recomending it like that so that you dont step on any toes or offend anybody. Making a band good is more than just giving them popular music. ITs about style. If you just start teaching them Neck and all those EWF tunes right off, it will not work well because white people interpret music differently from us.
