I'd have to go with consistency.
U can always make innovative moves within a consistent program. When there is a solid system put in place, and u dont stray from it, u can always tweak things here and there without compromising the tradition that is already embedded within the program....
True. If you are CONSTANTLY innovative though, wouldn't that be INCONSISTANT? You can't do/try something new ALL THE TIME and still be the same as before, right?

This is a good discussion, bruh...
Opinions please....
To you personally, which is MOST IMPORTANT in a marching band: Consistency (With both music and tradition) or Innovation?
Consistency is better.........BUT........alot of ppl want to call what they are doin "consistency" when it might actually be "complacent"
Any great musician has times of innovation. There is no one worth talking about who performed, composed, or played the exact same way their entire career........Vivaldi, Beethoven, Wagner, Still, Miles, and even Wynton has gone thru pahses and changed their apprach to things. I dont see where we get off now thinking we have perfected the art of band as if there is no possible way we could be any better.
consistency of course. Some people seem to believe tradition is playing the same songs and doing the same shows but thats jus called being lazy. Innovation is a must have though if not yo program jus gets stagnent. Trust me i know lol
Innovation is dead lol! Black peeps these days are scared to think outside the box, it wasn't like that in the past! Everything bands are doing today have already been done!
And 10 times out of 10 a white band did it first, but we put a "spin" on it!
I have yet to see innovation from anybody, PWC or HBCU.
I have some very innovative ideas I would like to see my band do but Black people are so complacent. Some of these ol' skool BD's dont want to step into the year 2009!
