An idea I surmised not to long ago brought up a way to cater to marching bands, schools, and the conference it self to incorporate a way to not just strenghtne conference revenue but also settle the bragging rights on who hs the inferior marching band in the SWAC. As bandheads and fans alike, how would you like to see a concert competition including all members of SWAC Schools square off in one graded exhibition of field show, stand blow downs, but most importantly a typical band competition which would solely showcase your school's integrity? I were informed by BOOK talks were in the work and sure this topic were discussed on this website months ago but since at this day and age many of us are disgruntled by the Honda procedures, wouldn't it be nice to see this popular HBCU conference compete to really see who's band is superior and or who deserves a silver bowl of Slaw. Bandheads especially SWAC'ies give your best analysis on how such marching band competition may enlight as well as prosper within the conference's funds.

they did something like this back in 01.....and 07 but in 07 i think it was just between GSU and JSU...
they did one in 99......
Is it probable for a return of this typical event?
My relatives exact words about my questions about the bands was.
"nephew they do give a damn about no band"
he assured tho that the SWAC RULES on bands aint going no where.
Just sad
Oh ok and it is a great idea to have a BTOB before the SWAC championship but what is really killing the conference as a whole during football season, many SWAC scholar will take heavily diasgree but you all need to rid away the inner conference game and return to the NCAA playoffs. I know my conference the MEAC is often demanded to participate in proposed Legacy Bowl but the playoffs with this conference, or scheduling top teir D-1 FCS division schools on your schedule, Pimp Games should suite the conference's budget as well. In reality, no one respects the HBCU conferences in sports but knowing the marching bands are the conference cash cows, officials need to tighten up. This culture prides on music and haveing a band competition will amass fantasies that were created through recent HBCU geared films which will attract newer fans and suite band heads with alumni appeal and HS receuitement. This idea could also suite the SIAC and CIAA as well as independent HBCU

For a conference administration that doesn't give a flying crap about the bands in its own conference, the SWAC bands sure go out of their way to make the conference look somewhat appealing. I say somewhat because when you look at SWAC sports, they won't let the SWAC champs participate in the playoffs, the SWAC basketball champs tend to get embarrassed in the NCAA tourney, and nobody really talks THAT much about the other sports programs. The bands still manage to make the SWAC look good. Maybe they should stop, and we'll see exactly how the SWAC would survive with out the bands.
As for the idea of an annual SWAC BOTB, it's not a bad idea. But money talks, and if folks aren't speaking the right language, don't expect much support to go behind it.
Yeah and that's a shame. OUR conferences should know by now that their revenue stems from the marching bands, especially within the SwAC. No to the athletics but no one comes for the games unless it's a rivalry or potential playoff bid for the schools. This idea in general will certainly increase the needs to keep music in schools as well since for us it's a valued formation among our culture

Truth is, if you can get a great investor, anything is possible. If you're talking $8k-$10k to get each band involved, the universities probably wont turn that down...especially the exposure it'll bring each school and the recruiting opportunities...Money talks...get sponsors, a venue, and the bands are there....
hope you dont think this idea is "original".... everyone and their momma thought of this! Find someone to invest that type of money.... until then, its nothing but another idea that aint gonna happen
