Simply unreal!!!!!

I can only wonder how much time, effort and drive these kids put into their program.  What are they DOING to those kids????!!!!

This is simply amazing! 

 

AND THESE ARE JUST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS!!!!!  Notice that these kids are playing music of this level WITHOUT their sheet music...meaning, it's been memorized to perfection!

 

Music Educators, what can be done to get our kids here in the states to play at that level at such a young age?

    WOW. They are practicing a lot and every child has to take private lessons. It's a shame other countries are leaving the U.S. in the dust.

    One word: WOW!!!! What's crazy is we, Wind Symphony at UAPB, played Slava, the first clip, last Spring. If these kids can sound like that, I just wonder what their advanced groups sound like that.

    Well....it is a higher lever a dedication, but they employ Suzuki's method of music education. In a nut shell,

    Sound before sight

    In America, we teach reading music more and earlier than we REALLY emphasize the technique and "sounds" of the instruments. According to Suzuki, the opposite should occur and at a younger age. There are lots of videos of young Japanesse kids playing high grades of music because a) they heavily emphasize the playing of the horn FIRST b) they begin playing at younger ages than in America (usually 3-6 years old)

    "How do you learn how to talk? You mimmic your parents till it makes sense. Would u teach a toddler about subject/predicate agreement? Or try to get a toddler to read before they can talk? No. Looking at it from this prespective, it makes sense for students to learn the language of music before the reading, terminology, and theory."

    Many ppl want to just chalk this method up as teaching by rote (in essence, it is) which is why many American educators look down on this method. Thats why they dont have the music.....they never had it lol......but in all (well.....mass majority) of the videos of young kids playin music as such, none of them have music because they memorized the sounds and techniques, not notes and rhythms.

    All of this taken into consideration, amazing is still an understatement about their performance.

    the human mind is an amazing thing.

    when you instill hard work and dedication from the start of a child's learning their limits have no ceiling.

    when kids are learned to be average or mediocre from the start then their work ethic and dedication reflect that.

    Well said both TClef2 and Disco sTu. It's not that it's unreal or impossible. The mass culture in this country is content with mediocrity and basically embraces it... Point blank. It chilcren in the hood (or anywhere else for that matter) right now that could do the same thing, but they just aren't shown that level of expectancy in combination with a nurturing environment.
