Southern University Director of Bands Lawrence Jackson To Retire.

'Yes its true! After 38 years Southern University Band Director Lawrence "Crowley" Jackson is retiring!I I look at him as my dad who took me in as a struggling young band director and showed me the ropes.I remember meeting you at 5:30 a.m.to go to Clinton High School in 1996 to observe you teach and motivate! I remember you giving me hours of video tape to study to learn how to put on a show! Mr. J also taught me how to be a show stopper! I learned the skills to rap on a mike at halftime from him. "booming system" and "don't touch that stereo" comes from my mentor!I also remember in Chicago in summer school together you practicing conducting from 2am till 6am! WORK ETHIC! I also remember in Chicago the girls knocking on our dorm room door obviously impressed with your charisma in class wanting you to come down to the bar and party and you told them politely "No I'm sorry,I have a phone date with my wife!" Congratulations to a good and faithful servant who is an awesome Band Director and even better person

    Wow! I gotta feeling if Haymer takes the head position, SU will be knocking 300 next season... who wanna bet!?! lol

    Well Congrats to Mr. Jackson and a job well done for services rendered. Enjoy life and we all hope to achieve retirement age in good health and spirits.  Now as for the future it's HAYMERTIME!!!!!! DEM OTHER SCHOOLS ABOUT TO GET THE BIZNESS!!!

    I gota feeling that it's gone b some major cranking this year since they will want to celebrate him but that boombox classic will b turnt ....

    WOW!!! I guess I didn't know that he had been there that long. Oh well, congrats on retirement!!! 20 years to go for me LOL He's had a hell of a run and has done everything and more that you could ask of an HBCU director. His place in history is cemented.

    From the outside looking in, it looks like he's been groomed well to take it over. I have no doubds that he would get it done.

    There in lies the big question at this point, will Nate Haymer be the next Director of Bands at Southern University.

    who the hell else would it be? lol. You dont think they gonna bring in a stranger/outsider to run a band like SU, do you?  C'mon now son. lol

    It's only logical it'll be him. SU nor its alumni will never allow a outsider in those type posotions.
