Now me and my mama(A SU GRAD) was talkin last night about the swac is compared to others confences.CIAA- yall know they have one of the biggest basketball tourneys in hbcu history they even rank #2 on espn for highest attendance at that event, stars and everything be there and it b on ESPN for about a week.SWAC- yall ever noticed its really not the much on about the swac championship, NO CONCERTS THE NIGHT BEFORE, NO STEP SHOW NO NOTHING!!!!! just a game which tends to be very boring and COLD.Now the swac is known for having great football and bands but how can we high light our confrence more and better.EXAMPLE- game be on national tv and the stands be empty!!!!! at those other schools like ga tech and ohio state u see nothing but fansss come on now yall we need to support our hbcu teams more not just for BOOMBOX CLASSIC OR BAYOU OR MAGIC OR STATE FAIR. how bout the alcorn vs alabama st game why cant that game bE 50,000 also (JUST USING A EXAMPLE)THEN WHAT MAKES IT BAD THE OFFICALS OF THE SWAC IN BHAM MAKES IT BAD FOR THE BANDS NEW RULES AND STUFF AND THAT TURNS AWAY PEOPLE FROM THE GAMES!!! WE DONT EVEN GET SUPPORT FROM THEM.HOW CAN WE BETTER OUR SWAC CONEFRENCE AS A WHOLE TO MAKE IT BETTER

Dre' - here's an idea. If every SWAC bandsman would mentor a couple of kids on this site that live in your city, or go to your former high school then there would be at lot more ppl at games - your mentees would show up. Also the quality of the recruiting class would be better, therefore - every year the the band would get better. Better bands will bring bigger crowds...at least for football games! Just an idea...ain't trying to start no mess!
the first thing that comes to mind is Homecoming Week. what makes homecoming great at any school is the events leading up to, and even following the football game. because if you really think about it, if you dont hype up the game its just another game.
and no offense to the person before me, but people are gonna show up regardless of quality cuz i remember 06 had the highest attendance in SWAC games at MULTIPLE schools, but the sound quality OVERALL, in some schools more than others (not sayin any names), wasnt all that great. just understand that you have to MAKE people want to be there. cause them to realize that their support and school spirit are important.
ITS NOT ABOUT JUST BAND IM TALKIN BOUT GAMES IN GENERAL!!!! WHITE FOLKS SUPPORT THEIR TEAMS IF THEY ARE 0-8777 IT SEEMS AS BLACK FOLKS ON THINK CERTAIN GAMES ARE IMPORTANT.

thr rivalary yes attendance no!!! magic city is the biggest hbcu classic game and swac 2nd is the state fair classic then boombox( depending on where it is) then bayou.

The boom box is not a classic and the games itself isn't even called that lol! It's just a intense rivalry beteen SU and JSU like all rivalries should! At this state of the economy don't expect big changes for basketball games! People in the SWAC puts more focus on football! The SWACs attendance is way beter than the CIAA in football and the CIAA's attendance is better in bball can't win them all! SWAC rules them folks in band,football and everything else exceot basketball so the SWAC conference is still better than the CIAA overall!
My thing is the swac never promotes anything ciaa bball games well the tourney be on espn for a whole week datz props and the 2nd biggest tourney n the nation too!
well one of the biggest reasons why d1 crowds are larger is because of the money aspect.most of our ppl cant afford season tickets.we believe in spending our money on the best games happening that season or that week.most d1 schools are driven by season tickets and d1 schools also have a higher graduation rate which in turn means more alumni actually having jobs that afford them the right to purchase season tickets.all these things must factor into the argument as well.i know for 1 you can go to the jsu vs. su game in jackson tickets are about 20.00,but the same game in baton rouge tickets are 35.00.then you factor in gas money and hotel for a night for some1 who probably didnt graduate from college and doesn't have a high 5 or low 6 figure job and thats a nice chunk to pay for a 2 day trip or even 1 day trip
