SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME INPUT. THIS IS INTERESTING.

on walkers side, they're trying to make it work, because they wont have a building next year. It's basically Landry folks being Stingy, the alumni on both sides don't want the merger to happen though.
Landry folks dont want walker kids on their campus nor the usage Walkers name. that's basically it I understand it and I feel them. Walker's just trying to make situations work.. They came up with the merged name & imagery. RSD is behind it. BESE is bound to stop it.
Last I heard was they were reconsidering the entire merger...in JUNE..with the school year starting this AUGUST. *facepalm*
Thats crazy! From what I heard, one of the main reasons Landry alumni dont approve of the situation is because of the history of the two people. Others fear of turf wars. Wasnt Landry newly rebuilt?
it's true.. thats one of the reasons.. The others are basically the History of the Schools themselves
Oh good grief, people need to grow up. This isn't just a New Orleans issue, it's a problem facing black schools all over the country because the neighborhoods aren't what they used to be. Any old person educated before the 70's will tell you that, doesn't matter where you are. The black schools / neighborhoods of the 1930's were built - after white people destroyed - what the freed-slaves built up between 1865- 1920ish. The 1920's was a time when anything black and successful was targeted and destroyed i.e. Tulsa, OK. And also explains why jazz was becoming so popular up north, black folks were running like hell in the 20's. But all we're told is that there was some great movement in jazz lol... ANYWAYS!
Black folks made yet another comeback after the 1920's and rebuilt their schools and neighborhoods between the 30's - 50's, then round two of white destruction came before and after the Civil Right movement. For some reason black neighborhoods haven't been able to thrive after the 1970's and have been headed downward since. Blacks came back after slavery, came back after the destruction of the early 1900's but since the Civil Rights movement we haven't made a strong comeback. Most of that has to do with LBJ taking the power from the black man in 64' and "strong" black women falling for it, but that's another topic.
All of the black schools of the day were opened by black men. That hasn't happened in some time. I'm not sure what "traditions" they're trying to protect but the black men who founded these schools, didn't open them for football and marching band wars. Educating his black people was primary. I'm not sure if the namesakes are alive, but I doubt they would want their names across these schools.
One of the arguments is that they're trying to remove black school names, which are named after black men. But black folks, particularly black women, allowed the system to remove the black man from his home, in turn taking him from his leadership. Not sure where the logic is in that but it is what it is. Most of these women are a little illogical though. That's why they're hired and end up with scandals under their supervision. How they continue to bounce from district to district is beyond me. And I'm not knocking the females but when black men were able to take charge and LEAD, black schools didn't have all these issues.
Stop using the white man's system and feminism to silence and keep black men out of power and things may change. Notice how the white woman still hasn't knocked her man out of power, no matter how many times she screams sexism. But he has made is possible for black women to do that??? Destruction is the goal.
There needs to be a change - not sure if this helps - but it definitely tells us that we need to come together. All of this separation isn't a good thing and the sad thing is that it's these parents acting a fool. According to the story I read, the students are going to the school already but dum-dum parents are at the board acting out. Are they really concerned about educating their child or making sure their son gets into a D-I football program, so he can buy mama a Benz? Same parents you can't get to show up to PTA's and other events. Because if they were paying attention, they would have spotted this trend long ago.
Silly article #1

White folks see this crap and laugh, they love this coonery...
Stupid article #2

“They’re acclimating fast and everybody is fighting for a position as we have ‘no returning starters and that’s been our motto.”
"Acclimating?" Seriously? They use terms like that to talk about animals. We're talking about young, black children who are not being guided properly. Who want's to remember "acclimating" to a school two blocks down the road with their own people?
Stop giving these people what they want. An entire article about schools, talks about football and stupid turf wars. Not a word about the education. Come on people, stop it already.
its basically because at the end of the day Walker's sport and band had to begin practicing together to make the merger seem to go smooth..otherwise if they hadn't these programs wouldn't be prepared for the next season..
L B Landry is basically means something to the community because he was a dr. in the community who treated folks grandmas .. so when they bult the school originally, it was in his name also on a street in his name.
shew we still have schools named after slave owners man.. like McDonogh 35 lol
and yeah Turf war goes beyond political. I attended the meetings man. I know whats going on. lol
This is probably the realest post I've EVER read on bandhead. Alot of good, solid points.

Walker's a Charter school Landry's RSD.
together the whole school will be chartered as LBL-OPW, yet RSD is still going to be accountable for funding that building.
The Kids in Band & Sports will work together always..It's the Criminal Element that they're trying to avoid. Landry folks seem to fear the unknown. they don't want the violence from associated with students from walker, coming on their campus,... they even mentioned in the meeting that A few weeks ago. its the 2nd time in landry's existance that a murder happened on landry's campus of a landery student . a walker student was the murderer this time. | IMO those were just two beefs that had nothing to do with the schools they ironically attended. .. but That's how it's being Thrown out in the meetings.. It's true that there's a criminal element. but that's All over N.O in every school... Both Landery and Walker have had students from All over the city in their schools. Walker was one of the Only HS's to attend after Katrina.. Landry opened a school that can hold over 1000 students and only put like 500 In there This year, Landry's first Sr. Class sice katrina Graduated... Walker already has over 1000 Students ..When they Merge.. at least 600 students will have to be Sent to other low performing schools
At the end of the day, Walker's just trying to make it happen. Landry's people feel like The walker kids & Staff are just "Hanging Around".
When the band performed as a Unified Group, the Landry folks had the most issues with that simply because Walker's name was on the paperwork.
Landry does not want to be associated with walker no mater how good or bad this merger could possibly be for them
both schools are against the merger, but RSD and ASCA are trying to make it work.. Some students dont want the merger. others don't care they're just going to school..
