On this morning's Tom Joyner radio show, he blamed Kappa Kappa Psi for Famu's drum major Robert Champion's death. He also stated that they were not a REAL fraternity. People are enraged about this on twitter. What are your thoughts? Tom Joyner is an Omega.'

I am editing my original post because it seems that I may have misinterpreted what Tom Joyner said this morning. It seems i wasnt the ONLY one who thought he was placing blame on kkpsi, but I stand corrected. I man up to my error. He did state that they were not a REAL fraternity. Many were enraged and it has been blown up.

The Kappa Kappa Psi National Council was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Florida A&M University Marching 100 drum major, Robert Champion. Our most sincere condolences are with the Champion Family and the Florida A&M University community.

According to the chapter president and Kappa Kappa Psi National Headquarters, Mr. Champion was not a member of Kappa Kappa Psi and he was not in the membership education process this semester. We are currently trying to reach representatives from the Office of Student Activities at Florida A&M University to confirm this information as well. The members of the Delta Iota Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Florida A&M have been informed that it is the expectation of our National Council that they will cooperate fully with University officials and law enforcement representatives with regards to the investigation of this situation. It is our hope that from this tragedy, the Florida A&M band program will emerge as a stronger organization.

The mission statement of Kappa Kappa Psi states, Kappa Kappa Psi is a fraternal organization that promotes the advancement of college and university bands through dedicated service and support to bands; comprehensive education; leadership opportunities; and recognition; for the benefit of its members and society. Hazing is not in line with our mission, ritual or values and is simply against the law. We steadfastly advocate and support the removal of hazing practices from college bands and society. For more information on the Kappa Kappa Psi National Policy on hazing please visit http://www.kkpsi.org/policies.asp.

Once again, our thoughts are with all those affected by the loss of Mr. Champion. We wish everyone the best as they move forward from this tragedy.

  • Dejuan Makes a Post (oh my) .. back on topic..  yeah but if it was psi, THAT would have been made known early...

  • Psi wasn't in that mess but i feel where he's coming from.
  • You know I stick my head on here every now and then. Funny how things happen in 3's. Penn St. scandel, Then here comes Syracuse and their assistant coach, then death from "hazing". When I 1st heard this, I'm thinking it had to be a crab or someone crossing their section, but it's not. It's a 26 year old drum major. DRUM MAJOR!!!! That's one of your field generals, and he's gone. Something happened. Internal bleeding. Lingering effects? Could he had tried to do KKPsi but didn't? There's too many questions and not enough answers. They really must had to stomp a mudhole(literally) in that man for him to DIE!! When is enough enough?

  • i feel ya man

  • its only a matter of time before ppl start talking to get the pressure off of them...i'll just sit back and wait because the firing of Dr. White was just the begining..."BUS C"...the ball is in ur court...2's...

  • KKPSI doesn't play when it comes to hazing, it's about to be even more pressure on HBCU Bands. I remember just last week when FAMU peeps were saying why are people all in their business now they should see why people are concerned because this will effect HBCU Bands due to the negative light. The media will have a field day with this story.
