Our group received straight II's for the stage and for sightreading. A bit more concentration could have gotten us a 1 in there somewhere.
La Marque performed while we were warming up, so I missed them. Shole hated it...
I was very impressed by Willowridge's group. Despite having a "smaller" band than before, Mr. Thornton has a good group of kids, and is dropping that knowledge on them. Some of my students said their pieces sounded like a movie soundtrack. Very clean, very expressive, great dynamic contrast.
Yates performed as we were loading up, so I didn't get to hear them. It's good to see them in events like this, though.
I'm glad that the staff at TSU took the time to put this together. It allows directors to have their kids perform before the "real deal" at UIL, and the students get to see a group that looks like them doing this concert band stuff. Usually if a minority school goes to a concert festival, they'll be the only ones like that there, and will be much smaller.
I hope this event happens next year, and has more groups to perform!!!
yeah Book that festival was very intresting...very...but never the less..produtive........I Think it helped and will raise the bar for band in this city and sorrunding ares to get better......because..I fell more band should have attended.....LIKE FOR REAL THe WHOLE H.I.S.D...SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE......NO MATTER WHAT STYLE..CORP,DCI, MARCHING OR HIGH STEPPING.....THEY ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE..TO GET A RATINg TO SEE WHA THEY NEED TO WORK ON TO HAVE A BETTER OVER ALL CONCERT PROGRAM......BUT HEY..ITs COOL..MAYBE NEXT YEAR..THERE WILL BE MORE BANDs THAT ATTEND.......that auditurium should have been feild up with folks just like these BOTBS WE BE HAVING......SMH...WELL I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANKS TO ALL THE BAND DIRECTORS..FOr BRING THERE BANDS..THERE.....IM SURE PROF GIBSON ANd PROF LEE WERE SO GREATFUL TO SEE YALL COME OUt AND WANT TO BETTER YOUr SELF..GOD BLESSBook said:

well there were many district UIL meets yesterday and thats what prevented Royal from going, if we went, we wouldnt havre our trumpet line lol

Excuse me, but what do u mean by no name bands who talk trash????? i really hope you are not talking down bout my school's band, we may not be in HISD but we do compete with many bands with in HISD and rank up there with them, but i do understand where you are coming from with in the HISD District since it has been going through many difficulties in the past several years

The festival went well. We will continue it next year hopefully..
I enjoyed every group that performed on Friday.

North Forest - u guys are definately doing well over there. Just keep pushing the kids cleve and tillford. minor problems but good job overall with the concert band.
I really like quintology (/) the peice with the 5/4 meter...

Lamarque - Good Job (small) but okay. Credit to your clarinets and tubas...good sound.
