  • I'm working on something, talked to Dr. T today about it today, trying to do something in April like this because many don't know the history, nor style.

.................wow....good one...I will step up and voice my disappointment with alot of our upperclassmen this past season. Instead of doing the GRAMBLING band, they wanted to do WHAT THEY DID IN HIGH SCHOOL, and provided terrible examples to the new ones. As far as band history, for most of my band, hate me or love me, imma say it: THEY CAN'T TEACH WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW....so as far as Grambling......I can almost surely say.....I doubt it. Bible says train up a child in the way that you would want them to go. WHERE DID THEY WANT THEM TO GO??
    Upperclassmen an Up?
Are u guys working out the crabs....even now? With all fundementals, mind set, School an Band History?

  • I think all bands could stand to benefit from knowing where they come from. I believe some band directors got so jumpy about hazing (and for good reason) that they also omitted the part of crabbing that deals with the structure and tradition of their respective bands. As a result, anything goes. Let it happen for 3-4 years, and guess who ends up as section leaders and drum majors?

Younger cats can't assume that "that's that old-fashioned bullisht" every time an alumni asks why did this or that happen, or tries to drop knowledge. Certain things become tradition because it WORKED for that band. If you throw it away, you lose what makes you YOU. You can still add your flavor to it, but keep the identity.

I can't get enough of old band stories, throwback pics, and vintage clips...and I BEEN out of school...
  • EXACTLY!
