Bands will be judged REGARDLESS OF MARCHING STYLE... so you will see both Showstyle and Corps Style Marching Bands with judges from both areas of marching.This is an attempt by Houston I.S.D. to acknowledge showband as a U.I.L. competitive marching style and compare concepts of showstyle marching to Corps Style Marching. I strongly encourage everyone in the Houston area to attend this event and show your support regardless of what school you represent. We need to build up our band programs to a competitive level and we can be the example not the excuse.So make sure your face is in the place. Here is a list of school performing:Jack YatesStephen F. This contest is our chance to show "the powers that be" that you can achieve a credible performance worthy of administrative boasting to the degree that our programs should receive equal funding and support, if not, HISD will have continue to possess bands that will never win state. That's right. There is a state championship for bands and each year HISD does not make it to the state final. If one has, please display factual information.
None of them. The only band to get a first division is Waltrip.. but thats only for Region... I think after this, they will finally start supporting our bands. At least we all got new instruments. Next we need to get set feeders

i wish they would have done this when i was in high school.......big ups to all bands participating.....i wish i could be there but its homecoming down here in da bluff lol..well have fun yall
Shoot! Now HISD admins can see how crappy some of their precious corpstyle bands are. Waltrip and maybe Westside. After that it is pretty much downhill. I know Bellaire and Lamar got numbers, well about the same size as the 'big' showstyle bands here. Scarborough and Reagan.....yeah some schools really need to be Showstyle.
Where's Worthing, Wheatley and Sollopadnab?.....But seriously the UIL dude needs to look at every schools problem with their music program ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS (I have to stress that) Because what works at one school might not work at others. Trust me. My home school back in the 90's flirted with every style of band but the one that worked. We even merged with another schools band! Some schools don't have Feeders. Some schools have excellent feeders. Some have had feeders taken away. Some times coaches can stop a band program (I have seen this). For example out here they would have to start at the elementary schools level and try to fight off retention and transfers till they get to High school. In a nutshell.....
Worthing is the only band that was actually excused because they have their homecoming parade that morning. Other schools like Austin, Westside, Reagan and a few more have earlier times because we have games that day. Wheatley, Kashmere and Chavez are the only schools not participating. I dont know whats going to happen to those programs now.
I can see a good trend beginning in our district but it may be too late. We all are beginning to establish feeders but some of the feeders suck or the kids just dont want to be in the high school band for whatever reason. All I can say is the Festival is a good dtsrt
