  • LOL!!! Who isn't going to say they school is the best??? This isnt going anywhere.
  • i would have to say worthing too and i don't go there
  • HISD needs help. Worthing seems to be the only band producing. At first we blamed administration then the directors now I see what it is. The students in HISD just dont want to be in band. Every band director has the same story:
    1. Kids quit
    2. They skip rehearsals then get mad when they get embarassed.
    3. None of the 9th graders want to join
    4. There are no 9th grade instrumentalists.

With the exception of Westside and Waltrip, HISD is struggling worst than before. However, the HISD Marching Festival this weekend should show that our district needs to take strides towards building our programs.
  • I told my brother that about N.O.

who is the best band in hisd
    i think worthing is
  • some reasons I have seen people quit or not get in band period

Parents shunning band to get their kids to play sports so they can try and go pro
    NO NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH.
Admin and teachers not in sync
Parents think that band is expensive
In one regard no one lives near the school so practice and transportation is impossible
The middle school doesn't have music so the high school shouldn't have it
    Kids working
    Kids being picked on
    PS3, xbox
'We have too many programs already to want to start a band'
'We are having too many problems with Blacks against Hispanics to have a functional band'
    (guess who Goldy?)
Its real easy to have a High school band when you have amiddle school feeding you freshmen every year. Even when Forest Brook and Smiley had off years THEY COULD STILL FEILD A BAND. They start young. Northforest will be a fool in a few years. Some schools have alumni comming back to help (Davis and I think Worthing are good examples of this) Sometimes I think some people are doing things to make kids not want to go to a school PERIOD (Yates).....I could go on
  • ive heard just about all those excuses right there, i may not be part of HISD but they aint the only ones with these kinda problems, and well that one statement bout Hispanics not getting along with blacks, that is somewhat true and false, just depends on the school

but alot of what people thikn is that white people cant do show style band so thats just more people out of the band, now i can say show style is not for alot of white people, but instead of getting rid of them and losing even more people(its mainlythe students who kick peeps like dat out) just help dem catch up and learn

and ima have to go with Worthing on the best band in HISD

\ That is just one particular school. I don't think it is as bad as they say it is. But you are white right? It is hard for an older white person to be a principal at an all minority school. The only reason they have that problem is because they play the races against each other. Even though the shcool IS mostly hispanic there is a good size black population (example if you went to a football game you would think it was a black school) the principals there historically have been putting races against each other....they have NEVER had a minority person running the school and in some aspects that hurts.....parents don't help either.....

  • oh now i see where you coming from

    and yes i am white
  • i dont know who d best as long as you agree that ur band is the best!! and about that issue bands or schools or the kids in it dont realize that hispanics and black are passing through the same issues i know cuz im hispanic and i pass through that at Worthing but jus cuz we not black don mean we not passin through the same thing that other ppl passing through cuz we all in a poor neighborhood!! kids or students just need to grow up like how my band director tells me BAND is the ONLY key that you have to go to college cuz we dont have the money to pay for it but students are just being knuckel heads and try to be hard and that gets on my nerves!!...................my opinion
  • I think oldwise is talking about a particular HISD school on the East Side where the director allegedly refuses to participate in any activity except for UIL. He also refuses to take any of the incoming 9th graders because they like to high step. Its a really ugly situation. Anyway that band was not at UIL.

However today at UIL I noticed a trend for other bands besides the ones in HISD. Some of the Alief Schools were smaller than normal also. The only big band I saw was Waltrip and Mayde Creek. We didnt stay for the Katy schools. but bands like Elsik and Hastings were small. So maybe its not just HISD. Maybe its just Houston bands in general that are struggling. So what do we do about it??
