SONG SELECTION

now i been following band for years and also song selection: now why is it that everytime another band plays a song that another band plays ( or so called) play 1st they stole the songs)example: su is playing mymymy this season now if gsu was to pull out the 1991 arrangement( which was no hoe at all 91 gram was no joke) people would say gsu stole the song from su.its alot of songs alot of bands took out of their book that they are playing now key example gsu finally brung back hay in the middle of the barn, why you lookin at me and so on!!if gsu was so play she's fresh on txsu, then gsu stole that song also which gsu was playin in the late early00's.even love saw it!!!! yes su was known to play that song but that was a very popular song back in the day very popular and many hbcu's were playing that.HOW DO YALL FEEL ABOUT THIS?? CUZ I NOTICED THIS HAVE BEEN A ISSUE IN THE SWAC MAINLY.

  • Its not a matter of saying the other band "Stole" the song. Its a matter of saying that they were influenced by the other band to play it.

My philosophy has always been, You Don't Attempt to Play Another Band's Song (a song that they are known for) UNLESS you KNOW yours has a greater impact than theirs.

  • i understand wat u are saying. but wat i saw sayin is the same songs bands are playing now alot of bands played that same song previous years. but since they havent heard it they stole the song. like gsu play black and blues and the bayou classic jsu said gsu never played that and it was taken from them... jsu not knowing gsu been playing black an blues for years. it was even played at bayou classic botb 04 mixed with numb.
  • I don't really go off about bands playing the same songs....except when txsu played M4 which is our "band" song...but I can even except that in the spirit of competition...thats the same as Uapb playing Im Dreaming in 03 and suddenly people began bring theirs back or Uapb playing head bussas' spring 04 and then everyone else playing that next season after it was already kinda old as far as the radio is concerned..or Uapb playing roses are red all the time and I believe su played it in 06 Pine Bluff has been playing Freddy's Dead since 03 and then Gram played it last year
Or Pine Bluff playing Something in the Past and then Alcorn playing it as a fanfare in 02, and We played Why You Looking At Me in 03 and 04 and I have honest never heard another band playing it until like 05 or 06
But all of these are just songs and everyone has a right to them it doesn't necessarily mean that they are copying if you think its a good band song then odds are someone else does also lol
  • well i feel all songs are fair game as long as you are playing it as good or better than whats been heard in the past. now if you are not or try to add something xtra(a&m fly like a bird)thats not in the song then thats when i think ppl have an issue with it.
  • Yea, i think its ok to play another bands song.....we all know what bands play what songs. We could list a song or two for every band in the country. If you play another bands song it better be a BETTER arrangement. You gotta play the song better or have a better arrangement, if not you will get booed

  • songs like m 4 and stuff are signuture songs for uapb so no other band should play em!!! but gsu spirit chant gs gs gs uuuu an stuff like dat is fun to play on da oppossing bands its fun an games
  • You know what....as far as this topic is concerned, it also depends on the two band programs. For example, somebody said that Morehouse was copying off of CAU for playing "Entertainment Tonight" on youtube. However, Morehouse band originally played that when Blake Gaines was the director in like the late 80's and early 90's. Mind you, CAU didn't actually become CAU until 1988 so really we COULDN'T have taken it from them. But because they are more known for their band, people are going to come out the side of their necks and make cockamamie statements like that.
