A flat or Concert G glat fingering for b tone

What the best fingering for A flat or Concert G flat for the bass clef readers on a Marching Baritone. Is it 1st  or 2 and 3? Whats your opinion from your experience? For me if its a moving part such as a run thats going very fast i would use 1st. But if its a whole note 2 and 3. What are you guys thoughts???

  • when messing around on a BTone i just do 1st for Ab, and 2 & 3 for Gb

maybe im not understanding the question cause a concert Gb doesn't equal an Ab for bass clef Btone...

    • Wat im meaning is. For treble clef btone. Its a flat. For bass clef its g flat. Isnt 1st da alternate fingering for a flat treble clef or g flat bass clef?? And not the low a flat. A flat above the staff. Cause whrn u play it down u play 23 all the time. When u play it up u can play 1st or 23. I was asking which one works better for u?!
      • Personally, when I was middle and high school, I always played 2-3 unless it was a technical passage or intonation concerns that called for me to use an alternate fingering.

    • he's probably reads treble clef... in which case he'd be correct
      • Exactly damien
  • I understand your question, but it depends on how u look at it. First of all we're talking about Ab for treble clef and Gb bass clef ( the problem is when cats try to blow using the first valve their not even using the full potential of the horn. ( because when u look at how these horns are made ( their is a certain amount of piping used to create each note( even though using the first valve is an alternate fingerin g it doesn't fair well in a big section when everyone is playing the same note but different fingering( check it out on a tuner).
