Next year we may see the demise Of North Forest ISD as it will be absorbed into HISD. Since I have alot of time on my hands I came up with this Guesstimation of the zoning when they are absorbed based on some facts. Here are some scenarios:
1. HISD will take over the district in mass and use the facilities like they are being used now. In other words it will be all HISD and North Forest High will now be HISD as well as the rest of the district with a few admin changes.
This makes since and is the cheapest route HISD should take. The problem with this is that there are so many kids in that area that dont want to go to their home school that North Forest could be a destination in an 'open' district. If North forest can right the ship in HISD Then it turns into another Barbara Jordan and suck up all of the talent from the other schools in the area. Possibly dealing a fatal blow to Kashmere...but I doubt that happens...
2. we will call this Dream zoning or too much like right.....Split North Forest into 3 sections and zone them to Whaetley, Kashmere, and Furr. All three of these schools are operating at 3a attendance, are close enough for kids to be bused, would infuse the campuses with people (so they would get more money) would give HISD (possibly) 2 more 5a schools.....etc
What are your thoughts?

No to #1 because it is the cheapest route, and government NEVER chooses the cheapest, most efficient route.
No to #2... Golden rule is no 5A ethnic schools.
Like I said... HISD will auction off everything or sell it on paper.
HISD will gain big time from this. 7500 students from low income families means millions in extra funds. A majority of which will be directed elsewhere lol... WHY? Parents wont be anywhere to speak up against the debacle.
I agree with that Golden rule but on another note what is Fort Bend gonna do with their schools cuz I am expanding my operations (landscaping) out Grand Parkway and theres a Bunch of ethnic out there. How will Travis, Bush and Austin look in 5 years?
Most of the 5a high schools in HISD are ethnic but look NOTHING like the other (non-ethnic?) schools. Chavez and Westside were opened around the same time and its like night and day...
...and if they auction it off...where are those kids gonna go? Those other districts dont want them...
why not austin? they all almost literally down the street from each other. Africans are moving out that way en masse along with other non white people
What will they do? They'll build a state-of-the-art super school a mile down the road and split the exsisting schools in the name of "growth". But the area around Clements is growing just like everyone else but no discussion on building a state-of-the-art school a rocks throw from it.
In some places, the line between NF and Kashmere splits neighborhoods. You see two different sets of buses going down the same street.
I could see them keeping the high school, a middle school, and the 4 elementaries. It wouldn't make sense to close everything over there. Everyone will probably have to reapply for their jobs with whatever HISD's job pool is.
When Dallas absorbed Wilmer-Hutchins, they bused the kids to Carter and Maceo. Turns out that was too far out the way, so they're reopening W-H as a DISD school.
What you say is true. I hope HISD does the right thing and keep it the same. You might even attract more students....Hell you will attract more students if it stays the same because NF will become another escape route for Wheatley, Kashmere and Furr in an open district. Believe it or not I stay In HISD and there are a bunch of Smiley and Forest Brook alumni around me. Possibly some North Forest too. People around here would rather go out of district than go to HISD, but if there is a closer option they may take it. My Neighborhood (hell my side of town) is full of graduates from EVERYWHERE who were trying to get away from FURR....
With that being said, If northforest schools stay the same North Forest will become (not soon) a 5a school...you are going to attract kids under new management. I am not for them closing the district, but they need to start planning now for what they are gonna do with the facilities. North Forest is HUGE, and may have alot of things that the other HISD schools do not have..
They may shut down Kashmere....
I always said if the academic issues could be solved so we could retain the kids that live in our attendance zone, we'd easily be a decent sized 5A.
Alas...
these are the estimated enrollment figures for the schools closer to North Forest in HISD:
Wheatley: 1101 Students
Kashmere: 596 Students
Furr: 865 Students
Kashmere and Furr are the closet since both of their boundaries actually bump up against North Forest. Kashmere is closer to Old Forest Brook and Furr is closer to Smiley/North Forest
