I prefer Sibelius. My co-worker uses Noteworthy and does pretty well with it. A lot of my band/music friends are most comfortable with Finale. See if you can go with your band director to one of the music conventions. The companies usually give demonstrations of music notation software. They come by local music stores from time to time, as well. Call around and ask.
It's a trial and error type thing. I tried Finale first, and didn't like it. Sibelius was easier for me to learn. But you have to try them out to know that.
