Prof Mark Gordon will be holding auditions for Marching Storm scholarships in Oklahoma City at Milburn High school on tomorrow and Friday.. He will also be traveling to New Orleans Louisiana and holding auditions at O.P Walker High school (Monday & Tuesday) for information on requirement etc.. The trips must be funded and approved by the department head... I want to say that the Profs have already been to Atlanta though.. and school doesn't let out for summer in Texas until June..
But when recruiting in other areas outside of Texas, it makes more sense to go by what time they get out of school. The trip seems like its gonna be pretty much in vain. There might be a few kids who wanted to go to PV anyways (most of whom probably already audition by video) but its REALLY late. Reguardless, good luck in your recruitment efforts.
I hear what y'all are sayin.. However, they did not just start recruiting.. They've been recruiting all spring/end of the fall.. They are actually wraping up.. I was just asked by the profs to post this thread.. But recruitment for us is going GREAT.. Preciate the concern though and the advice..
Pluuus when you have students constantly calling the band office and directors saying that they are interested in being in the Storm then you have to make some extra trips.. Although the staff does go out and recruit willingly throughout the year.. recently it has been upon request from students for them to come to their cities..
Not to be funny but the three largest high school showbands close to pv haven't gotten a visit. I'm pv alumni but my seniors r lookin elsewhere n already have their scholarship letters.
but PV doesn't really go to Houston to recruit that much...a good set of Houston students always come to the storm I'd say 50%, Dallas and Houston HS students already have their mind set on what college they going to, either PV, TSU or SU...really no point in going if you have a constant flow of students from either city although Dallas always gets many visits...PV has been focusing on other areas now such as Austin, Atlanta, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Michigan, and California....and I feel like its a smart decision to still recruit..students might get offered more scholarship money and change their mind at the last minute...but like phiSG said the recruitment has been going great expect a bigger Storm this Fall at the SWAC/MEAC Challenge.
"Dallas and Houston HS students already have their mind set"....I would have to disagree with this statement. If I had a university stop by to audition students FOR SCHOLARSHIPS it would definitely persuade my decision to which university I would attend in the fall. Money talks. I think Goldy was just trying to point out to not forget about our fellow PV alumni that are at these High Schools and welcome their students as well. Not against recruiting from other states, but we should not forget about what is just 45 min down 290.
