Diamonds, Boxes, Circles-seen a variation of those for decades. is it possible that one day someone will move away from that or is it even possible to do a field show without incoporating 8to5 period? WHat would happen if a band comes out and does another drill instead of about 3 dance tunes? Would the crowd find that boring?
People like to say we give the crowd what they want to see......but can't take a risk and try something different for a change?

what you really mean is the idea of changing drill concepts, There are many ways to do Kaleidoscopic Visuals besides doing box drills 100% of the time.
Truth is.. These concepts are displayed commonly alot within our bands. they're just not use to create a full show..
The Scramble, Rattle, Rip, Tiger Run-On, are not 8to5 box marching/drilling concepts.. most of the time those are Double-Time Dynamic Movements.. That's not something invented by show-style bands but many of us do it as part of our signature features.
Box Drills concepts usually have corners. ... whether its 2 4 6 8.. it has a corner and there's always a pivot or wing man in each 4 man set.. but you also can go 8 or 16 man sets. it doesn't matter it still amounts to a box drill.
High Knee Lifts (8 to 5).. means 4's and 8's will always matter.
When you Stride step (rolling), it's commonly 6 to 5 which means that depending on the drill concept there will be more shifts in numbers..it'll be common to get veriations of whole and half steps happening simultaneously Why? because it's commonly a follow the leader situation ... Similar to when our bands are in "Double-Time" .. yet slower..or depending on the shifts in tempo of the music they're playing.
It's all about positioning.. it's the same when playing music ...

you probably knew that already
Honestly, I think that the crowds are getting tired of seeing the same routines over and over, and the dance routines are getting stale.
