My school has once again betrayed the band program and the hard work my brother and I have put in and has shown its ignorance of tradition. My brother and I are in charge of getting arrangements of songs for the band to play and spent weeks to get music in line for the homecoming ceremony. We came up with 12 arrangements to send to my band director and he sent them off to the administrators to see if they liked them. It wasn't until THE MORNING OF homecoming that they came back to him and said, "no we don't like this music" (which was traditional homecoming music: old RnB and all and very good arrangements so I can't see why they didn't) and asked him what the band was going to do. So at this point our band director basically told them (in a more professional way), screw you guys, we can either play what we submitted or you guys can have a CD play instead. The administration of the school choose the CD. This was a slap to the face for me because of all of the work I have put into improving the band this year. Also it showed how the new administration at the school is ignorant of homecoming tradition.
How would you feel if the new administrators at your school did this?

Thats a bad situation, sometimes its depends on the majority of what the school looks like(color) and where the BD is trying to take the program. Is the student body mostly white along with the administrators?
The student body is around 2/3 black and 2/9 white, the rest is other. The administration is all black but I really don't think race has anything to do with this, just that the administrators are new to working in a high school.
Anyway, unfortunately in response to this one of the arrangers I have been working with told me that he no longer wants to work with our school and requested that we do not play any of his arrangements. I wish it didn't come to that but I agree with him.
Administration wants the bands to be a Lassitier (or whatever the top corps bands is in your area) for competitions and a SWD for pep rallys and homecoming. That's pretty much "normal" what took place.
I wouldn't say it is normal. It was a break in tradition at the school that shall not happen again.
