Going to TSU's Band Festival was good for us. We got to play for a crowd and work out some performance jitters. We got straight 2's for the stage and sightreading. We knew that the UIL judges would be a lot stricter. We sounded a lot better than two weeks ago, but we came out with a 3-3-4 on stage and 2-2-2 for sightreading today. From where I was, I was expecting maybe 2-3-3 on stage, but I'll take it. The region chairman said that it was the best sightreading score he's seen from a high school in our district. With us not graduating too many seniors, we stand to improve even more. We expect to see at least a 2 on stage and a 1 for sightreading next year. We'll see how it goes...

Remember this...... preparing to perform on the stage is a semester long process. chorales, long tones, lip slurs, solo and ensemble, and discipline.... the BOTBS are ok but.....after MLK focus on the stage and pick some music that will provide them with a positive musical experience. a good spring semester will make your following fall semester so much better. Keep up the good work.

Thats great. I like to hear bands taking part and taking UIL seriously. When NFISD stops screwing around and gets their act together the band will flurish. This is a definite plus though.
The superintendent that TEA assigned to North Forest ISD (Dr. Johnson) was the superintendent in La Marque when their high school was rated exemplary and the district as a whole was rated recognized. Coincidentally, this was the time when their band was making a lot of noise too. He wants to stay on past his assignment to get everything on the up and up.
He's already given walking papers to a lot of people that were not doing their jobs and allowed things to get as bad as they were. Unfortunately, the news won't be there to report any improvements...

Good luck to everyone else that's gone or getting ready to go!
If the Ridge doesn't get sweepstakes, I'll be upset. They sounded really good at TSU.
