I personally feel that 2008's version on Spend the Night was the most dynamic song ever played by Southern.(By ever played I mean footage to prove it) What do you guys think?NOTE: I know the 07 band played it in the spring and it sounded great also.

I can see where ur comin from on that, and i would probably have 2 agree, because as u stated that shat has a plethera of dynamics and secondly cuz we(tbones) had a profound role in the melody........07 did play it and there is a video available of it, but 08s clarity and balance was a deciding factor
Adios endorses.............and on a side note this is a debate 4 Juke only
We played something in 07 that I think trumps this. It never made it out of the band room tho. Help me out juke.....I think it was titled "Concierto De Arnujuez"........... I know that's not the correct spelling but its somewhere along those lines. Knighten wrote this and the piece was just warm all the way through. Had a solid a$$ trumpet solo in it..........you just have to hear it. The concert band played it too so it might be on cd. It was long as ever though so I think memorization probs stopped the marching band from pulling it out in the stadium.
Love Wouldn't Count Me Out in 02 was nice but not executed to its best.
Let It Burn in 04 was nice too for an R&B tune.
Yea I know man I got at it with Haymer all the time about 90's vs 2K bands. Hey we just wanted to tear the roof off too...........most of the time lol. I don't know how we got caught up in this "musical" jibberish! j/k
Na seriously tho SU is getting more and more well rounded year after year. While these other clowns are playing catch up we are steady mashing on the gas!

I agree wit that "Concierton De Arnujuez" piece, we've played it in the bandroom this yr, and i think thomas or chubbs has the solo, anyways that song jus sends a marching band into the graceful world of classical music

First..lets not go to far with this 90 vs 2000s thing....
I marched in the 90s and the 2000s and from what I can hear in general there wasn't a difference in dynamics from those two decades. As far as dynamics bands due to spend the night we can noticeably point out 08. At the same time 95 could be noticeably pointed out too.
What i will say about 08 is they probably had the most diverse book ever. I think with having what's considered our core sound with Knighten and Jackson and the addition of Nate with playing these songs that would've never been played in the 90s the later 2000 bands have great diversity. I know for a fact in 99 we wouldn't have wanted to play "Weak". But out strength was our "weakness". The only negative thing you could say was we play all these "old school" tunes...Black N Blues ..Never Satisfied...etc.
Now your book has the same ole school stuff we wanted to play..."mid school stuff" late 80s early 90s...(Weak, My My My, Tevin Campbell)..and new school "i Decided"...The more I think about it...It was just 08....08's book was crazy.
