Deep Divide in Houston 4A schools

This is not really band related but I noticed that almost all of the smaller 4a school in HISD got ran off the field last week by the 'true' 4A schools. HISD needs to look into enrollment because you have schools that are really big 3A schools playing 'true' 4A schools and they not competing well. its hard being a high school with 500 kids and you play a school with 1500 kids but you in the same class...I am thinking this 'open enrollment' mess combined with HISD's propaganda machine is the cause of this

  • That happened becausing of all the rezoning!! They want certain kids to go to certain schools..plain and simple
  • It would cost more to make those schools 3A.  Then they would have to travel out of town for UIL Athletic activities and vice versa.  Just think about where the closest 3A schools are.  At least an hour drive in any direction.  Add traffic to double that time... ITs cheaper to keep them 4A
  • Who's fault is it that people arent attending the schools in their neighborhood, if theyre even attending school in the first place? The zones that many of the schools were originally built to serve no longer have the number of students in the zone to attend the classes. Could be because many have moved out and those moving in dont exactly list school as a priority. People always want to cry racism or go grab some Congresswoman the minute someone suggest closing neighborhood schools but the truth is the students arent there.

The enrollment issues are not the fault of HISD.

Houston just needs to close all of these neighborhood schools that people arent attending.  Build 15 to 20 super HS campuses with 3,000 - 3,500 grades 9 - 12.

  • HISD set this up to happen. They do this open enrollment then all of a sudden the neighborhood schools are empty. then they saythe kids moved out. they didnt move anywhere! in my subdivision alone there are 3 kids going to westside, a good bunch going to wheatley, bj and btw...my blocks are full of kids that go to school all over the city when they get to high school. if they do go to school out here its at one of the charters....and thats a whole other issue....still waiting on that white charter school......
