Don P. Roberts, dekalb's music coordinator, was recently fired and the new superintendent intends to cut all dekalb music programs in order to make dekalb like the last place she was in charge in illinois, where there were no music programs.

The wrong person is being targeted... Light a fire under those board members.
Those Tea partiers do not want our kids to have nothing extracurrlia in our schools !!!! If a man doesnt stand for something he will fall for ANYTHING !!!!!
This is stupid, I hope she can't be serious! Especially seeing that Dekalb County has a great musical history. I suggest doing what Chris said and lighting the board up.
Truthfully, I don't think she'll get far with this anyway, but anything's possible I suppose.
Why was he fired?? Any news on that? Is can anyone confirm that he's been fired?
I haven't found anything yet, but I been looking.

It's been confirmed that he was let go....I was in attendance at the school board meeting about the issue. Dekalb is not standing for this at all. Even people who aren't directly related to the music program are fighting to save it, and Don P's job...
Dekalb County has been facing budget cuts just like many other county school districts in the metropolitan area. His position was more than likely eliminated like many others. Do I agree with the decision to cut the position? No, but thats just the nature of the beast when cuts are made.

Ive been saying Dekalb County was a bunch of smoke & mirrors for years.
This isnt anything new. Students get on this site and ask why all of the time... I post it, say it and I'm shouted down every time. This is what happens when the citizens aka taxpayers, cant afford to support their system. People vote a crap-load of lame brains to the board with no financial management or budgeting experience whatsoever. Run a credit check on the folks running the finances of the district. If they cant manage their own account, how could they possibly manage millions each year.
200+ member bands with new instruments are nice. But did anyone ask who was paying for it?
An $80 property tax increase is a joke. The property owners, not those renting, who live 20 miles from Dekalb will fight those increases.
Spend, spend, spend and not one year did Dekalb ever have a surplus to place in savings... Even lowly peasants as I know to save for rainy days.... NAUGHTY! NAUGHTY!
