WHY ARE FIELD SHOWS THESE DAYS SO POORLY ORGANIZED? Ppl walking, dragging, getting to their spots late and just flat out boring, but get to the stands and be a beast....why is that? Halftime should be the high light of any shows back in the day the stop clock would be stopped at halftime, now i see why them big schools go gt food at halftime... THIS IS NOT TO ANY BAND AT ALL BUT THE MAIN BANDS WHO CLAIM NUMBER 1 OR 2 OR 3 CANT EVEN ENTER THE FIELD WITH STR8 LINES (BEING IN GENERAL) WTF IS HAPPENING HBCU BAND?

Its more than just the field shows, its the overall mentality. Outside of Southern, JSU, BCU and Norfolk the HBCU bands are showing signs of weakness but its not their fault. Our minority high school bands nationwide are taking severe blows due to lack of funding, lack of feeders, lack of support but the worst thing is that the students are just not interested in being part of a team. There is a lack of pride across the board. Being a band director today is way more stressful than it was 12 years ago (I still love it but got dam).
Our HBCU bands are starting to be slouchy, undisciplined, lazy and refuse to show musicality. This is an issue that needs to be addressed at the root of the problem (6th grade)
Hope nobody was offended. I LOVE my HBCU bands but a lot needs fixing
Amen my brother!! I think all real directors need to start their careers on the middle school level. I taught middle school for 6 years so now I know lots of tricks to make a band sound good.. Lots of our upper level directors never taught on a low level before. So lots of directors don't have a clue how to rehearsal a band! College don't teach you how to be a great director.. It's really messed up, but it's not to late to fix it!! I don't blame students for any of this because they only do what we teach them!!

DISRESPECTING THE FIELD SHOW

I totally agree with this. From 2003-2007 i was the assistant band director, working under the director that taught me at Grambling Lab. It was a great amount of Pride and hard work that went into what we as a staff did and it trickled down to the band students. We spent countless time working to make sure that all aspects of a perfect performance was on high priority. At the time we shared the same practice field wit GSU. Hell ask RJ how many times we had GSU waiting on the track for us to finish practice. I wasnt leaving til i felt it was perfect. .
Now there is an abundance of the "I dont care" factor going on as u stated it starts in middle school.
The fact of the matter is these days you have bands that rather focus on blowing or the term i cant stand "KRANKING" rather than give a flawless halftime show.
Or here is my all time favorite. The band that does a lackluster field show and then hurries to the stands to blow a loud rap song on the other band. .

Goldy when you siad JSU i almost fell out the chair, Grambling has much better field presence than JSU and many others. I can honestly say GSU pays attention to the field.

Eventhough SU is still the best in the land, they have issues with DRIVIN..Too many times i see people on the front line walking down the field. That's a lack of pride & lack of grueling practices..We used to practice until11,12,sometimes 1 in the morning depending on the game..Now they are finished in 1 hour. That's why the lines are crooked & only a few people DRIVIN down the field..The"JAGUAR ROCK" is almost obscelete, there are too many different marching styles all over the field and the sound level drops when they begin moving. The way DOC & KNIGHTEN used to drive us at practice,it would've been 9o'clock before we even started the show.We would spend 1 or 2 hours jus doin straight 8 to 5 up & down the field until the lines were str8 & we all were pickin our feet up..That's why we were miles beyond the rest of the bands in the country..JAGUAR PRIDE!!!!AEA!!
what is that man tommy talking about? Gsu is one of the best drilling swac bands with entertainment added and when do people be everywhere on gsu shows? Lmao people just talk to talk these days...gsu band has four uniforms they mix them up AND IT GOES TOGETHER but hey.
