If the sound is in tune then the sound would push more in general, but not sure about the chord thing, it could be true I just have never heard that one before.
I really appreciate what the band director is doing here. He understands his instumentation and is working with it. Good job sir, and your still not discouraging the kids!!
colors give depth and color to arrangements. in a sense they do make u louder because nobody has to strain to play their part comfortably, by adding harmony(chords and divided parts) to a song.
