I realize that when our bands get some sort of acknowledged by miscellaneous sources our bands tend to gracefully and proudly accept it 100% with no problem. Yet when our own familiar sources especially Those related to the HBCU band community acknowledge our bands as such. We tend to challenge that sources credibility by looking for fault in whatever process they may have used to make the decision.
Many times we tend to disapprove of the opinions of the people who represent HBCU sources because assume that they're speaking with personal bias.Yet, we're willing to accept and become braggadocious about being highlighted, ranked, rated or mentioned by a entity who has no knowledge of what it is our bands really do.
If band website ranks bands based on YOUR vote, you have a problem.
HBCU Awards committee gives the best band vote and you have a problem.
If your schools student body says your band is the best.. You approve, even though you typically say "Non band members opinions don't count."
And lastly If a Non HBCU related source ranks our bands EGOS RUN WILD based on who's in the top spot.
Is it a desire to be accepted?
