I would like to see a high school band who would blow in the stands then backthrow and perform a corps style field show, then get back into the stands and blow again, not only playing todays hottest rap and r&b hits, but also other genres. Do y'all think more students would remain in band past 8th grade?

  • We do our thing in the stands and we've done a couple corp style shows (which is rare). Music range from today's rap to 80s R&B to Rock. Moving on the the race part, maybe less then 25% of our band is white (our school is majority white). Sooo..
  • my schools corps style and tht exactly what were going to do next year
  • I always hated to see students quit band after 8th grade because of a certain style. My elementary school ( who only marched 6th-8th graders) always had a strong program and never had less than 90 students excluding the 5th graders who were beginners, and it appeared the highschool band could barely keep 50 students. We had 42 8th graders in band my 8th grade year, but only 17 joined in highschool. Its a shame it happens.
  • I think the location of the school would play a major part. And the problem with kids coming in as freshman into high school and joining band is the "cool" factor. Once they get into HS they think they've made some huge adjustment in life.
  • My band does it.
