Does age matter?

I have a question, I graduated high school in 2006 and marched throughout high school since then I worked and choreographed for local dance teams and taught ballet and played in a jazz band, so i have stayed active really wasn't too ready for college after high school but I am now attended a two year and will be transferring to bama state. My question is; Is 24 years old too old to tryout for the band? I 'm not sure if i want to continue with dance or stick with the flute/pic?

serious advice only

So is it alright to tryout for the band a couple years after high school graduation? And are you still eligible for a band scholarship?

    Just to make sure....
  • oh name change huh "lady Ellejay" lol .. my boy Shane is about 25 and this is his first year in the band over at Texas Southern
  • me personally i wouldnt crab at that age...for 1 you will be the oldest in the band for the most part...and the mentality level of the younger folkx would just TOTALLY get on my nerves...but thats me....

if you can and really want to then go for it!!!

  • No you're still young. I'm 24 myself and intend on doing the same next fall before my studies become more tense. I'm a band head at heart, and graduating college without being in band would only leave regrets. Of course our age puts us as one of the oldest, if not the oldest, but my mind is strong enough to cope with 18 and 19 year olds lol.

  • Yes, I was thinking the same thing, I know my age will be a hinderance but I can't let that stop me even though I know I will have to deal with alot of immaturity from fellow band mates due to them being younger than me

  • Go for it, but I wouldn't advise crabbing under "children" or "young adults" cuz the tend to act like "children" or "young adults" but as far as marching, go for it, crank up lol.
  • Ok thats what I am saying, like on collegiate level when you crab, of course I am gonna be under kids wayyyy younger than me, but that is something I got to take in consideration also.

  • I think crabbing at our age will give somewhat of an advantage. Our cbs and sisters would have the opportunity to look up to us as their older sibling. We would be their mentor providing guidance when they would feel like its the end of the world and they want to give up.
