Drum Major Uniform Ideas

I recently just became a Drum Major (yay!!), well, Co-Senior Drum Major. There are two of us and we're both girls. We need ideas for our uniforms for this upcoming season. Our school doesn't have premade DM Uniforms like most do. For the past 5 years, the DM's have been guys who wore black tuxedos. Our director has told us that there will be no more tuxedo wearing, and I personally didn't want to wear it either. So, does anybody have any ideas? Also, we're from the north.. Michigan. Our programs have been getting some serious budget cuts... so we can't have anything overly expensive.  all ideas are welcome=]

  • What's your school colors, marching style and what do the regular uniforms look like?
  • Our colors are red black and white. We do traditional corp style marching (8 to5 roll step) and i have pictures on my page of the marching band.

  • i agree, wind/warmup suits are the best...we are actually getting new DM uniforms for my band and for 3 uniforms its roughly 4 grand...its rediculous.

The simplest and probably the best idea would be to just wear warm ups. Their very affordable, and real drum major uniforms im assuming are expensive. So warm ups wouldnt be a bad idea because their cheap and look good.

  • your best bet is doing warm-ups/ track suits. alot of bands in Detroit, well in the area wear them except for maybe competitions and major events. besides the cost of uniforms, they are expensive to get cleaned
  • well, i dont' think my director will agree with warm-ups only because we're not show style drum majors. not saying that all show style DM's wear warm-ups but we stand on a podium and direct the band. and we do ALOT of competitions. thanks for your idea though =]

  • believe me, if we had 3 grand to spend on anything, we wouldn't have marching band uniforms from 1978. Nor, would we have mallet percussion equipment from 1985.
  • Well if it's that bad ('78) then I suggest the black tuxedos or a regular band uniform. what I suggest even more is some super fund-raising.
  • dont sleep on them warmups. thats looking like the best option for you right now. Unless you want to wear a normal band uniform. they're affordable ( wont cost more than $100 for 2 ). throw an emblem on it and you're good to go. This website even has your school colours on it : http://www.bandmans.com/warm-style-43304331-725723-p-8724.html .

  • warm ups aint all bad. and i have seen corp style bands with DM's in warmups and actually go to competitons looking like it. Especially in the south here...dont get cold for a while and those uniforms make you overheated. but yeah do some major fund raising. do like weekly raffles and stuff. summer is coming up so do car washes. Do something because DAMN!!! thats some old uniforms and equipment. Good Luck to yall
