Are there still any drum lines out there dat do any thing after football season is over? This is the best time to put your self and ya line out there!I'm like damn when was it cool for a middle school to run houston? (Big-ups to joe b and da BCE)!I don't think I seen any high school cats walkin around wit some sticks in they pocket. It starts wit you people get off ya a** and make it happen! Directors just make them go if it was a BOTB u would be there and wit da 20 people doing a step 2 drill in 2 lines! Lmao! What I'm saying is if u keep makin them go no matter what they look like pretty soon they will get sick of losing feel me ! And I know what some of u r thinking " I don't have any one to work wit my line " bull !!! Take a lil time out wit your line and just sit back and look at what they need to work on! And make them do it over and over and over! The same way u would teach a song duh! U know what u want them to look like so make them do it til they do ! And don't be a smart a** and do it 1 day sh!t don't happen over night! Maybe 2 times a week or any free time u got . If not pay someone like any of the Lone Star Choppaz(nice plug in) to do it for u ! You would pay for a song or a drill so show da d-line some luv to ! Some people make sh!t so hard when its so easy! Now this weekend Is high noon what yall gonna do sit around and wait for somebody to come to work wit ya line or put dem boyz out there in the fire?

Good story Cushion!!!!!!!! But guess what...they havent seen anything yet!!!!!!!!!!!! I think that I am going to go ahead a show these boys what it REALLY means to do Bucks and Eights in front of Hobart!!!!!!! All of these years that I have been at Elmore, I was just doing something, but now since the High Schools dont want to participate in anything, I am REALLY going to rub it in their face with these 11,12&13 year old kids. I am going to make these boys feel like they have been to2G274 if u know what I mean. I'm sick and tired of cutting these boys slack ya feel me.Boys are getting too comfortable!!!!! So, I am going to put Elmore on rest for the rest of the year while I make this transformation. Jasmine is leaving next year but As u saw I have more killers coming behind her!! it is about to get real serious Cushion!!!! Boys almost done pissed me off!!!! You remember how the DHS was at Smiley!!!!!!! Oh yeah, Its bout to go down real Exclusively for boys now!!!!!!! You know when I get something in my head how it goes. Yeah, its time for that!!!!! Time to be like Beethoven and bring out the Opium!!!!!!! Til next time...................Chop ChopChop!!!!!!
Everybody is in a rebuilding stage Cush...
You just cant make those claims...
Joe B and Frank are both sum damn good instructors... They've turned Stevenson and Elmore into killers. but to say that they are running Houston? I beg to differ...
Stevenson has Leo and Coshalyn... Elmore has Lil' Jasmine. That only equates to 3 kids that play better than the average high schooler. If u take away those Super 3 then Elmore and Stevenson are just as good as Deady.
Now I agree that those Super 3 are phenomenal... but the entire section isnt reflecting their skill level.
Can either of these Middle Schools play cleaner than Raul, Worthing, or Willowridge? Absolutely not...
True they both out-perform sum high schools at drum competitions... but that's only because those high schools dont have what those kids have.... QUALITY INSTRUCTORS!!!!!
Even in a year's time, I have substantially improved Austin's look and sound as a drum section, and I dont even work with them 5 days a week like Joe B and Frank....
So true, there is a lack of good percussoin instructors, but The Super Middle Schools dont run Houston... they just have a high accumulation of trophies from Drum Competitions with a low attendance of quality drum sections.... and a FREAKISHLY large ensemble... I mean, seriously, Frank could probably cover 3 yd lines on a football field with Stevenson's drum section.
It would be more accurate to say that they RUN middle schools....not Houston.
you are Austin's drum instructor? Were u the guy trying to challenge our cymbal instructor from LLI?

Drumlines and Directors WTF
Are there still any drum lines out there dat do any thing after football season is over? This is the best time to put your self and ya line out there…
For starters...
We need to schedule these drum competitons at more convenient dates.
Check the TAKS testing schedule and UIL events b4 u establish an event.
SEcond, schools need to start showing up.... Raul, Willowridge and Worthing shouldd be at EVERY competition, seeing that they are the dominant sections of Houston. High Noon shouldnt be the only Competition with a reasonably good turn-out...
Thirdly, STOP calling on these phony azz judges that create their own RIDICULOUS scoring system that keeps the good drumlines from going to competitions... I mean seriously, sum of the things I have read on score sheets are putridly incompetent and HEAVILY biased!!! I'm not gone even elaborate on it. I could fill up an entire page.
Not once have I seen any percussion camps surface that aim to better the Percussionists of Houston.... You see all these basketball and football camps pop up everywhere, but music takes a back seat. That's probably why UIL wants to shut down showstyle as a whole.... No one cares about perfecting that Houston-style.... and even if sum1 was to create this camp, they overcharge and never get the ball rolling.
U cant antagonize these high schoolers, man... They only do what they know or what they are taught,
This is no different than when You and Joe B were at Sterling and Smiley, respectively. It was only three major Top Notch High schools (Willowridge, Sterling, and Smiley)... everyone else was right at par or below.... Now that we have two middle schools that are a lil' ahead of their time, they now RUN HOUSTON!!! That's a bit excessive, Cush
I completely understand ur logic and the message that you are trying to convey, but the whole "Running Houston" thing is a bit excessive. I wouldnt want these kids to get gassed up and get they feelings hurt... Just like when Lil' Jasmine was rippin Hybrids and couldnt play Ratamacues or dragadiddles... Just like how Coshalyn at Stevenson doesn't know Flamacues or a 13 stroke roll (WITHOUT slowly counting each stroke), Let's be all the way honest, man.
It would be better to say that.. You are displeased at the TERRIBLE turn-out rate at these drum competitions.
I know I am.... If Austin didnt have to do the Rodeo Parade, we would have been at Elmore's Competition.
look man boyz need 2 step it up kid ! I think if it was at da end or the beginning year it would be da same few people there . and no matter what u say elmo and shady dale are the top 2 lines in da H right now !!!! put them up against whoever and they get the W .in my time at worthing we took some L's and some big ones . but we had enough balls to jump ou there 2 get beat without a instructor !!! how can u get any better if u dont know where u stand ? and lookin at your line its behind elmo , shady dale , townview , worthing , da ridge , LLI , or jus last behind what's out there . ( i got 2 fire u up 2 win somehow lol) back in da gap it didn't take a instructor to tell us 2 win it took heart ! now days boyz want u 2 put da sticks in they hands make up the part teach it do da moves damn near jump on da line and perform wit them ! when i had a chance to work wit da groove all i had 2 say was we need something new and the next day they had it . i was just there to enforce what da judges and da crowd want
well well well....let me finally weigh in on this... i feel where both of you cats are coming from cush and lee.. but ima break it down to you from a band director's stand point even as a percussionist!
1. this is considered concert band season and many directors arent interested in their drumline going to no damn drum competitions! just being real! now i konw that its crucial that we keep the craft alive and keep these high school kids on their chops but to be honest...many of these competitions are biased and seem to favor whoever shows up the most! many of those middle school kids arent in a full band...its just the damn drumline.. so wtf you think they are working on each and everyday..
whereas, my students are working on melodic percussion and learning how to better read music...scales, rudiments, percussion ensemble stuff and the actual concert band music that we are playing for festival this year! nothing comes before that trust me!!! you can play 1,000 drum features thats not going to get ur a$$ no full band scholarship! its focusing on those basics and being a total percussionist! im not knocking anyone that goes to all the competitions etc...but my kids here at worthing have to focus on whats most important and thats making sure "we" as a band can function at all times together from marching to concert band...now when elmore had their competition we had a gig at fiesta which paid $1500...do you think i would miss that kind of money to go to a drumline comp?? hell no!. when high noon comes up do you think im going to compromise my students going to the tsu concert band clinic?? hell no! thats going to make them better percussionist by learning from some of the best cats out here "mr lee and prof butler etc.." so before we get on here and judge and say high schools this and that...make sure you understand whats really behind some of the decisions being made..
now i do agree some folks arent' doing $hit and have no reason why they aren't there... it has nothing to do with a percussion teacher cuz when i was at yates we never had a drum instr but we still went to competitions but that was only because we didnt have a concert band at that time... shiiiid, if you think im going to have my percussion students screwing up in concert band practice and butchering the music there and then gone turn around and let them go to high noon or low noon HELL NAW!!! it aint gone happen! we prioritize over here big time! we have tsu festival march 27th that we are focusing on as well as waltrip concert band festival apr 4th. so i agree with lee.. these comps need to be planned at a better time and not when it conflicts with concert band, UIL, taks, grading etc...
i'd love to have my d-line go to more of these comps but we always seem to have bigget things to prepare for besides just that..especially when we are getting performances that pay us and these comps dont pay $hit but a nice trophy???
y dont yall ask mr thornton of the ridge, mr woodson from sterling, and see why they lines arent competing in these kind of events more often??? im telling you its nothing personal but business comes before pleasure people.. im a percussionist and i'd love to have my cats go to these events way more but at the same time i have bigger issues to focus on and drum comps isnt one of them..(just being real guys) im working hard on getting these kids fundamentals up, get their reading skills way better and having them focused on the true art of being a percussionist... and i dont think i have to validate my skills nor kelton skills by sending them. i been here at worthing 3yrs and for the past 2senior classes that have left here all my seniors have received scholarships on their instruments cuz we are busting our a$$es over here teaching them how they should be taught and not what everyone else thinks they should know....idk how everyone else feels but this is just wat im preaching at worthing..nothing less doc..
peace.
