Dancers.........the only Bad Counts that was thrown was the 2nd set of Counts on the ballad where the leader threw the wrong Count...(so she said) and the Feature. The dancers recieved alot of Bad remarks from ATL people (they are mad that EHS was the only dance squad to get a "Wow" Factor that day) they said they Dancing style and what they was wearing was inappropriate (opps sp?) but little that they know the uniform was a approved Catalog Gym uniform for HS squads, that goes to show you that even in the simpliest uniform, a young Female with a Fit (meaning the "Janet" build") body would make it inappropriate. In a area where all the Dancelines are Carbon Copies of BBS, anything new to ATL would be hated upon. Alot of people who gave them good compliments said they reminded them of the old MLK "Queens" yet the Queens nor Cedar Grove under the Sponsorship of "GLENDA" had never been hated on as much as Easterns "Majestic" recieved in ATL...
Now the Band.... The band Consisted of Current Students and 10 Alumni.... (Note Bands using Alumni at Jamboree isnt nothing new so dont even try bashing the school..... Cedar Grove used about "25" alumns from 2 Bama HBCU's), Eastern is about 60-70 members (8 bones 3 btones 4 mellos and 3-5 tubas 5 trumpets and about 10 woods) not much difference in sound except for a slightly more thicker mellophone section whom ran a clinic in ATL that night i must say!! but dont be suprised to see a bigger band next year, the band just started its 1st year as a rebuilt program and they can easily reach 90-120 members.
The original Battle was supose to be Grady Vrs Eastern but GHS Backed out and been replaced with Pebblebrook, they probably had a chance in beating PHS without alumni but..like they say "when in rome"....you know the rest. They wasnt there to Compete with PHS (since it they wasnt their primary target and all) they just wanted to entertain the crowd. People said this years Jamboree was the 1st Jamboree where the 1st set of bands was worth watching.... Im waitin for the Dance Routine to come online, it was hot.
I think the band was fine and like i said in the dance forum the girls were str8. They did indeed remind me of the Queens back when they first started. And honestly i dont see anything wrong with the uniforms they had on. For the most part for a band of their size it was nice to see them play within their range and instrumentation. I cant tell you how many times ive see small bands blasting and sounding so terrible trying to match other bands around them that are double their size.
And sorry Reppa i have to agree with you on the BBS tip. Not all ATL squads ride that wave. Actually a vast majority wont.
They need Lots of work, the Sound is strong no doubt, but they sound Empty, something is missing. Arrangement was real simple. They don't sound bad but yet not good enough.
