Eleminating Halftme Shows

I Just Read somewhere where in Rochester Minnesota, The School District Decided to Eliminate Halftime Band Performances because It.. WHAT IF THEY DID THIS TO HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE SOUTH!?? here's the article Marching band matters In the stands at every high school football game in Rochester, players' parents ride an emotional roller-coaster with each play. They want their sons' teams to succeed, and they want their own children to play well and avoid injury. It's exciting, stressful and nerve-racking, and at halftime, these parents take a deep breath, hit the concession stands and discuss the game with other players' parents. Meanwhile, another group of parents have their eyes riveted to the field, where their teenage daughters and sons are performing in the marching band. For band members and their parents, these shows are both exciting and stressful, the culmination of weeks of preparation and practice. These students might not be able to throw or catch a football, or make a game-saving tackle, but they contribute to the atmosphere and excitement of the evening in a very real way. It's not easy. It demands a major commitment of time and energy, and the vast majority of participants will never receive any individual accolades for their efforts. They perform because they love it. That's why we hope that the recent decision to save roughly $20,000 by eliminating field performances by marching bands at Rochester high school football games is only temporary. The moment there is some light in the end of the economic tunnel, the Rochester Public Schools reverse this decision.

  • this makes no sense.....at all.....in any way....
if they are doing it for the love...why are you trying to get rid of it?
stupid ass people....you get no individual accolades?? how bout you can get a free ride to college doing something that you love???? these ignorant ass officials....this kinda stuff pisses me off man....
  • and they couldn't do this to bands in the south because the bands are too rooted in the culture....granted the kids are getting lazier...but the HBCU marching band world and high school marching band world wont die....REGARDLESS of what the dumb asses in the front office who've never held a damn horn say...
  • Wow, that's sad. Don't they realize that way more students participate in the average band program than any other oganization at school. I hope that the parents speak up, but then again maybe it's just not that important to them. Being from Atlanta I just couldn't see that happening here.
  • That's STUPID
  • So if the band is performing at the game anyway, how is stopping them from performing a field show going to save $20,000? I didn't think that it cost money to do a field show.
  • It cost $7000 for show preperation according to them.. and maybe stadium rental will probably be lesser with a shorter halftime ..
