  • You're talking high school band camp?
  • So if I were planning on attending in the fall I really shouldn't be going to this?
  • this should be in the high school forum. and all i can say is keep your horn and belongings in sight at all times or you will be missing parts on your horn. hell, they'll (kids) steal your toilet paper. but it is a lot of work. they will utilize 16 hours a day, everyday. the patch is hot as hell and it has some big !&%@# mosquitoes, so bring some insect repellent. GET IN SHAPE FROM NOW. when you start rattling you'll see out of shape people dropping like flies. your counselors will be in the 100 already so they will teach you alot and tell you some crazy !&%@# stories. overall, hard work = great results, you'll have fun. also, this will get you ready for pre-drill if you go in the fall
  • is housing included in the fee? and i play snare drum, so would i have to bring my own instrument as well?

i would be coming out from los angeles, and i was awarded a scholarship and i want to see if this is worth the travel fees.
  • yes you will be staying in a dorm (more than likely paddyfoote), Tubas and Percussion have to bring their own instrument, you also have to bring your own toothbrush, soap, towels, things of that nature. i looked up the information packet for you http://www.famu.edu/bandcamp/Camp%20Info%20Packet.pdf. you should call to see if there is any chance of you being able to rent a drum from them.

  • thanks for your input
  • You don't "need" to come to camp but it will be real helpful if you plan on marching this fall. Pretty much everything Future Rattler said was true btw especially the in shape part.
  • I remember i went there in 2003 my junior year of high school i had no intentions on going there at all though..lol they (the baritones) used to get mad at me all the time for playing so loud and yanking my horn cause i was a J-State head thats all i knew and loved and they called me Grandpa Baby cause i looked like a Grown ass baby.. lol.. but it was fun it was my first experience being at a HBCU i only went cause my high school band director went there and always sent people there.. i had fun though i would recommend it to anyone FAMU has a wonderful music program and i got to meet alot of people dont talk to any of them now but i did learn some fundamentals there i learned how to triple tongue i thought that was koo. the only thing i didnt like was that the showed favoritism to those Florida and Atl folks. and that it would start rainin out of no where but u cant stop that it was fun over all good job FAM!!!
