The Golden Panther Band has officially been eliminated from the University’s program.
The marching band’s future became uncertain after then College of Architecture and the Arts dean, Juan Bueno, said in an open forum in March that the College's budget could not accommodate the band.
CARTA funded 65 percent of the program, while Student Government Council at Modesto Maidique Campus and the Athletics Department each funded 21 percent and 14 percent respectively, according to former band director, Carla Geiger.
“We don’t have that in the budget,” Bueno, who resigned in March 2009, said at the forum.

“FIU takes arts for granted,” said former Golden Panther Band drum major Ernesto Fernandez. “They don’t support it like they should, they never have.”
