TALLAHASSEE, Florida – August 20, 2012

The first home game of Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) 2012 football season will include an enhanced experience with a special halftime performance by recording artist, FUTURE. With one of the most played songs on urban radio, FUTURE will kick off the football season as the university celebrates its 125th year anniversary. FUTURE will also host a meet and greet for winners of a promotional contest expected to get fans and supporters of FAMU football excited about the upcoming season.

“We are very excited about the 2012 football season and the talent we have seen in our team,” said Derek Horne, FAMU athletics director. “This is an exciting time for FAMU football, and the Athletics program has created an energetic and vibrant halftime production to give fans and supporters a spectacular experience. Having FUTURE perform at the first home game sets the tone of what fans can expect throughout the entire season.”

In addition to FUTURE’s halftime performance, the entire game experience will be enhanced with an Old School vs. New School DJ battle. DJ Demp, popular among FAMU alumni, will represent for the New School while DJ Neaux out of Atlanta accompanied by DJ Will ‘Power’ Packer of Rainforest Films will represent for the Old School.  Packer is a FAMU alumnus that has now gone on to produce major motion picture films like Stomp the Yard, Obsessed and most recently Think Like a Man, among others. Local radio personality, Joe Bullard, will serve as the game’s MC and keep the energy and excitement level high among game attendees.

In celebration of the university’s 125th anniversary, the FAMU Athletics program takes on a brand new energy this season unveiling a new theme – “Our Team, Our Time. Respect the Game.”  Each game this football season is enhanced to include a special halftime experience from major recording artists but the talent lineup for the entire season is tightlipped for now. In addition to the game experience, FAMU Athletics is partnering with Visit Tallahassee to create sports travel packages that includes hotel stay and a game ticket.

Opponents for this year’s home games include Hampton University as the opening game on September 15, Savannah State University on October 13, South Carolina State University on October 20, and the homecoming game celebrating FAMU’s 125th anniversary on November 10 against North Carolina Central University.

  • The Game Will Not Be The Same. 2013 Is Taking To Long.

  • I wondering what will FAMU do about the Atlanta Classic game?
  • Nothing because the football team will be there.  and SU will have to Rock the House without the 100. Sorry SU no 5th Qt this year.

  • I really think that this year's Atlanta Classic would of really been intense. But hopefully the 100 will be back even stronger next year.
  • puttting emphasis on the football team eh..

  • Well Fam Football team isn't all that. but if there wasn't a football team there wouldn't be a band.

  • oh trust me, SU will have a 5th quarter all by themselves, just like the few times theyve done a 5th quarter at Mumford when a visiting band didnt show up

  • you replace the Hundred with a trash @$$ rapper like Future?

FAMU is on a STEEP decline...

  • I was actually thinking about going to the game, but I DO NOT want to see FUTURE. I would've been more supportive if it was even a local artist.  However, I can understand that a lot more people like Future, and that me and other people who dislike him are the minority.  That being said, they will succeed at more people to the game, with methods like these.

But, I was thinking this game would've been more intense between the two bands this year too.  But, I guess we'll have to wait until 2013 for that one, lol.

  • We'll see who the real football fans are. HBCUs can't advance their fball teams when all people want to see is the band.
