I'm sure other bands are wondering why the media is so friendly to Southern. Southern has ALWAYS been media-friendly. Years ago while other bands were going around trying to censor people's work and denying media passes, Southern never did that. So Southern's band deserves every bit of attention they're getting. I'm all for it. I no longer record but I've meet many people along the way and I forward Southern's work to my media colleagues every chance I get.
Southern, FAMU and Bethune Cookman have always treated media folks well, and you'll notice they're ALWAYS in mainstream news - good or bad. So that's some food for thought next time your media relations folks DENY credentials. I find it odd that JSU has all those band crews out there now - too late.

Huh, what! First off, Great Job SU. Now, I'm not understanding the purpose of this post. This topic has nothing to do with FAMU, BCC or Jackson. When one is not, the other one is. All four institutions have been in the media and are constantly in the media at any given time. Lets just say your hatred for one institution shines very clearly in this long arse post you just typed. Breathe my brother, breathe lmfao. Again, great job SU, well deserved.

For starters, look at ALL the forum topics and media coverage on the JSU/FAMU game. If there was a mention of a marching band, it was "why the Marching 100 wasn't traveling to Jackson, MS." No mention of the "Sonic Boom of the South."
Southern vs... FAMU vs... Grambling vs... Cookman vs... Those schools marching bands are the topic in mainstream media when there is talk about whoever they're playing. Damn near every SU vs ULL article BEFORE and AFTER the game mentioned "the human Jukebox" and embedded a clip. After the JSU vs FAMU game, the discussion was still on why "the 100" didn't come, not on the band who was actually there.
No one is discussing Jackson State's band in mainstream media and I'm telling you why - JSU has to smooth out their bad media relationships. And based on JSU's generosity with the media credentials this year, it's pretty obvious they know.
So "bro," you haven't earned a PhD for a reason - you need to learn how to gather your facts. And how do you quote an entire statement but only argue one line??? You think people are too stupid to read the entire statement and draw their own conclusion about what I posted? You don't take ONE line and base your argument on that. That's that bible-thumping church logic - and it doesn't work outside of church.
I'm no SUperfan of Southern but the facts, as they relate to this topic, are that Southern, FAMU and Cookman receive more mainstream media attention than other bands in their respective leagues. And why that it is pretty simple to explain. Southern treats the media crews covering their school, much better than let's say - Jackson State.
FACT! Years ago Jackson State would deny media credentials for the hell of it.
FACT! JSU pretends as if they never received a credential request. It's rude if I submit something, and you don't reply. Or if you deny it, you schedule the email for 12:01a delivery on gameday.
FACT! Southern usually let's you know within a day or two if your request is approved or denied - which was rare. And if it was denied, it was usually for a big game so it was understood.
FACT! Southern NEVER went around censoring clips and threatening to revoke future credentials if one refused to remove clips.
FACT! JSU would have media folks removed from the stadium for no freaking reason.
FACT! Southern on the other hand welcomed media guys.
As with any other job, media folks eventually move up within the ranks. One day that cameraman you jerked around will be the editor of a media outlet. Or the photographer your Sports Information Dept. laughed at when he called to check on the status of his credential request... YEAH! He now "networks" with major media outlets and rest assure that bitter photographer has nothing good to say about JSU.
Now all of a sudden Jackson State is allowing these media guys to come to the game and record the band. I'm not dropping any names, but go ask some media folks who have covered JSU over the past decade. I guarantee they'll tell you they have a better relationship with Southern's media department than JSU's. If I'm posting something erroneous, by all means, I welcome correction.
So there's my explanation of why groups like Jackson State don't have mainstream press - LIKE SOUTHERN, FAMU and COOKMAN.
Lol umm, wow bro. I don't think it was that serious. I think he was just saying out of all the schools to choose from that barely get coverage you choose JSU because of your hatred for them (or the fact that they wouldn't let you record them back in the day lol), which still gets more coverage than a lot of schools in the SWAC and surrounding conferences regardless.
