Source: WLBT JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson State University officials issued a two-year probation ruling against 20 freshman members of the Sonic Boom of the South Marching Band percussion section. The students, who participated in an off-campus hazing incident last month, were found guilty of failure to comply with university policies. They also were fined $200. According to Marcus Chanay, associate vice president of student life, the students may be suspended from school if they are found guilty of violating university policies in the future. Following hearings on Thursday before the Student Life Judicial Committee, five previously suspended upperclassmen were exonerated of hazing charges. The five were among the 27 sophomore, junior and senior members suspended from the university for two years due to their role in the hazing incident. The freshmen will be allowed to participate with the band and will join the Sonic Boom in its performance on Saturday, October 3, when the Jackson State University football team plays Southern University.
