Grown Folks Putting High Schoolers Down....

I put this discussion up because it kinda disturbs me.....I noticed that some of yall grown people will basically talk down to a high schooler over the internet or on a video.....If you feel that what ever we play sounds bad...then give constructive criticism ....Dont give negative comments...Honestly I feel that's really childish if you just gonna sit there and talk bad to a High schooler over the internet...I understand that yall at the college level and yall feel like we some slaw lil kids that just talk smack all the time...not all of us are like that ...My point is Just because you Got better in college doesn't mean you should put high schoolers down....Some of us really are good musicians...Plus Just because you grown now doesnt mean you know everything...Yall were in high school sometime in your life...and by the way in the end yall gonna be the ones watching us perform at football games when we get in college....How do yall feel about Adults who do that ??? cuz I see it often

  • I'll bite.....For me, I don't hold the students AS accountable as the directors. High School students only do as taught. The overall product, while being performed by the students, is all on the director. Now on a college level, the students are held to more standards, but still it all comes down to the director and what he allows. As for anyone that may have something against the kids themselves on here, Idk....ON THE OTHER HAND...many High school kids...at one point or another, didn't understand the concept of if u haven't been in a college band, watch your mouth. TRUE...we have all been in high school, so we know that experience, for some we did different from today's programs, but while it is a generational thing, the directors should be willing to be as productive as possible. I personally believe that is u ain't part of the solution, ur part of the problem, thus I won't say much bad about a kid in high school unless imma do something to help them OR ATLEAST the field of grade school band. My two cent....

  • "two thumbs up!!"
  • I am guessing people never heard the term "tough love". Personally i aint gonna baby.. you dont PERSONALLY ask me for help, i aint gonna help ya.  fucked up aint it? but thats how the WORLD operates.. any kid who posts videos of themselves FULLY AWARE how how bad it sounds deserves EVERY comment he/she gets... ITS THE WAY OF THE WORLD!!!   cause i PROMISE the day i put a video up of me sounding like shit, i want ALL OF YOU TO TALK ABOUT ME LIKE I AM THE WORST TRUMPET PLAYER EVER.... Fuck that babying shit... it aint for me      IF YOU OLD ENOUGH TO PUT UP VIDEOS AND CRITICIZE, THEN YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH TO GET TALKED ABOUT...
    • Not to mention they start talking all types of noise pumping it up like it was good. That is when it wears on me.
      • exactly....   so that why i just let em have it....
        • At some point, someone has to tell them truth. I have seen where people did try to be nice and give some tips to improve the performance, then it is met with being called a hater and leave us alone....etc.
          • I understand EVERYTHING yall saying !.....the only thing Im saying is some people just cross the line with stuff...The thing is sometimes letting them have it makes them rebel I know sometimes in All Star Alumni bands There are conflicts because the high schoolers are upset with the College people....I mean really doee we all in this together lol
            • It's how one approaches it. Some people lack communication skills. You can tell the truth without breaking one's spirit just because you have the power to but some can't help it, it's how they were raised. I will not just break a kids spirit, you can damage them and make them give up music, especially how the generation is now. I will tell them the truth but in a way they can accept it. It's not about babying, it's about approach. I don't just criticize, i give constructive criticism. There is a difference but the ultimate blame goes to the director.
