HBCU Televised Games

I know that we are HBCUs as a whole... But personally I want to understand your point of view on why "our" games aren't televised too often.. (Especially major broadcasting networks)... I understand the "beef" that we have towards each other(which is supposed to bring out the best). But why aren't our games televised... We have some of the biggest rivalries in college football, yet we hardly ever get noticed..Basically my question is... Why are we so far behind? We have the credentials, we also have the intensity... But why do we struggle to get recognition... We "all" have greats and legends that have been true to the NFL, but honesty, we have nothing to show for it..I just want to know...First of all.. Why are we so far behind?Where we truly are?And where are we headed? As alumni, students, and supporters of our precious establishments.. We must upgrade..We need to "step up" our support(as a whole)Us as black people(not to play the race card) have been behind for over 400 years, yet have still not caught up with the world as we need...I just want to know what "we can" and "we are" going to do as a whole to prosper our HBCUs...It's more than about talking,,,, it's about "LITERALLY" doing

  • I think my basic comment is I agree but it's got to be selective networks. I'm glad this thread was posted because more games need exposure. I think networks like BET TNT FX AND FOX SPORTS could really carry games.... idk what is BET's issue they need money and the hbcu's would be a good market for them
  • bouncetv covered the siac last year
  • BET use to cover HBCU games in the 90's and early 2000's. I dont know what happened! :-/

  • Uhhhh dnt know what season y'all watching but for the past 4 weeks Thursday Night Football for college has been all HBCU...this year has more espn deals than they have ever had before...I kno ASU has 5 televised ESPN games this year
  • Yes but the point that is missing is consistency and espn does do Thursday games but I'm more of the mindset of a network saying to like the swac and meac let's cut a deal and televise 10 conference games.
  • BET sold out a long time ago---its not own by a BLACK man anymore he sold out a long time ago, along with Black NEWS-----ESPN only has us on ESPN 3 ,which in turn most sports bars dont even have that package----start a BOYCOTT of these CABLE TV stations !!!   Most of the Black Homes have the full package with the same old reruns------plus espn dont give out the BLACK COLLEGES scores until late at night !!!

  • Part of the reason you see more PWC school on national TV is because most of those school are more competitive to watch compared to some HBCUs. Also the funding that comes from some PWC are a little bit longer and these schools have wealthy alumni whom gives back to the school. Also sponsorship helps too. Not to say HBCUs don't have these things. Prime example, I shot a reality show for SMU (Conference USA team) that aired on FOX Sports for 2 seasons. SMU wasn't considered a power house football team at the time but the administration wanted more exposure for the football team so they got with a producer in the city, came up with a concept and got the alumni association to help fund the project. You have to remember too that ratings matter. Its not about black or white. You have to be able to draw people of all races.

  • Ugh! I wish that HBCUs had more exposure to the world. Our bands used at events to showcase talent and certain games are televised, but as a whole there needs to be some way to level the playing field. I know bounce TV cover games last year but how many people outside of HBCU students and alumni watched those games. I remember when BET used to cover the games. I would sit in front of the TV just so I could see and hear the band. Actually, I was first exposed to AAMU by BET. BET aired a commercial that showed AAMU's band and campus. I told my family that I was going to that school when I graduated from high school. Back to the topic, should ESPN show equal PWI and HBCU games or should there be another channel just to show all HBCU games?

  • Totally agree a separate network should pick up hbcu games it's a good market to tap into but the problem would be funding and quality of games. But whatever network decides too will get some very good hidden money but alumni from these school have to be proactive in talking to network producers too. If any the swac will be the first conference. I'd really like to see maybe BET but TNT AND FX would be good networks to pick these games up

  • I don't see how boycotting would be that effective.
