  • No lie, this is one of the hardest situations I've ever been in and I'm sure lots of other leaders have been in. The people you are talking about is the type that needs do be taught something.

Wannabe Section Leaders(s), players who aren't a section leader but try to be anyway. They are at times referred to as the “Anti-Christ” among their peers. They are always seeking for revenge, or being sought for revenge. Usually pretty bitter about not being section leaders, so although they lack actual power, it's not wise to piss off the wannabe-leaders. Most are juniors who deserve to rule, but lose to a senior because of seniority rule. Constantly interfere with section leader plots. They are most likely a favorite of a choir teacher. Most wannabes are good at yelling and expect the other members to roll over and take. ( which they do but sometimes they have someone ball-z enough to turn around and yell "I don't have to listen to you, your not the section leader!" which they wannabe be responds by saying "no need to be a bitch about it!" turning around and completely ignoring everyone around them and playing by them selves). sorry i just needed to put some humer in.

The biggest cure is to show these guys who's BOSS. Even if it requires the Band Directors help. The best way to achieve this, is to talk. One of those talks the BD gives after a poor performance. The type that makes the whole band quiet.
  • yea, dat too

That is a great answer right there. Have the talk with the band director present to make sure things don't get out of hand. Try to see what is going on in their heads, and then explain what is going on in yours. Be sure to let them know that you are open to suggestions to make the section better, but there is a time and place for that.
  • this is one of the few times that me and Damien agree on sumthin...lol,,,make dem niggaz quit,,,you gotta set an example
  • You gotta make them understand that you're glad they're there...but you gotta make em believe that they AREN'T needed.

The size of the section should not influence how you run it.

You still gotta be stern but fair...hardworking but not overbearing. At the end of the day, you gonna work with what you got anyway, and life would be much easier for you to have a little bitty section with folks that would listen and follow directions than a slightly larger section that has a bunch of stubborn know-it-alls who think it's their show.

As small as sections are, there is always fat to cut.
  • i had the same issue with my some of my tenor drums last season.
It all boiled down to simply having a talk with the bd...establishing authority over the line...and keeping the bd on your side.Because in the end its the bd who has the final say.
  • 1. show the movie drum line at your school
    2. 30 new people
    3. split up 12 in your d-line kick the rest out

JK, but you gotta let them know what the deal is. either they start listening or make them quit. also you should start recruiting more people for your section. with 7 people, if they are all really want a bigger d-line you can get at least one close friend to join per person.
  • Oh dang,.
    Dude stole my idea
