I faced that same problem my senior year it in high school it was 5 total and 3 was new what i did bascially was have practice on saturdays for about a month but me and the co section leader never played even during practice at school they had to play we made sure that they knew there notes and the music and just let them have it. When we played our second game they was ready you couldn't tell that they was new, and of course if they messed up they got it big time. The key to it all is practice and they got to want to be good
Extra practices, exercizes....it will not be quick but it will take a month or two because they have to get used to the horn and mouthpiece..
Have them learn Bb, Ab, Eb F and C major scales and do Long tones from the top note to the bottom note. This will build their chops up
Breathing exercizes- have them stand up straight, sholders relaxed. Breath in a little stright up, then more when leaning to the left and then fill up when leanign to the right, go back to the stright up position and have them push the air out as far as they can...have them do that 10-15 times every practice. It helps out how much air they store in their body.
Fitness exercizes well you should pretty much know what they do lol.
Good luck to you and your section and your band this upcoming season!
