  • I can see pregame but after the game you will still have post game issues with being kicked out the stadium. But I like the idea.
  • Nope...cause the SWAC office will come up with rules that prohibit bands from playing before the game as well...LMAO
  • how come southern vs jsu get to battle and last year txsu and jsu battle before the game? simply get there early and start playing
  • That's cool and all, but the SWAC rules still kill the game atmosphere. For example, win a team scores, by the time the band plays and the crowds start to go along and celebrate, it's time for the band to be quiet. It just sucks.
  • The band can't even play when they bout to kick the ball, aint that sum bullshit. But I think it has to do wit money cause the bus folks charge by time so it will prolly cost the band more to get to the stadium early
  • We try to get there early and do a pre-game if time permits. I know the rules are in place and I think we abide by them for the most part. That's also why we do battle of the bands the night before. That gives the bands a chance to be featured more and also helps us financially. In fact, at the last SWAC meeting, I know that Athletic Directors were complaining about the bands staying in stadiums where it cost money to rent out. They say they end up paying extra for security to stay while the bands battle and when you rent a stadium, it's usually for a 4 hour period meaning the game might be 3hrs and pre-game is an hour before the game, thats 4 hrs right there. THESE RULES ARE ALL ABOUT MONEY MAN and sometimes, I think they try to phase the bands out in order to try and make money like the big ten schools or something.
  • exactly....all about that cake! Sad doe, because majority of the ppl there only too see and hear the bands anyways. Without the bands, the games wouldnt be exciting at all IMO......

Hey bandheads, Why not have a pregame for all swac games like the boom box cl.?
All the bands have to do is get there early, they already are limited on songs during the games cause of swac rules. let them play and also14 fifth q…

  • thats right. The head band directors just have to put their heads together and start coming up with alternatives. I know if I was Head, I would start creating events that drastically take away from the football attendance. We must realize that things are not going to change as far as the rules and we must adapt and move forward. Man, if we had the financial support, it would be good just to make a traveling season on band battles or divided the swac into regions for band and have big contest that draws large crowds and no offense, bump the football game..You are only obligated to do home games and a few classics where contracts are involved.
We have to start getting our people interested into some different stuff. Just my opinion

I understand that about the 5th....but that is still no excuse for in-game playing...

Can only play on T.O and end of the quarters....not even a single drumbeat is suppose to be played

  • I hate that some of these offices have a northern look at bands down here in the south. If these HBCU's were smart, they'd figure out a way to use the bands as a revenue stream that would "help" benefit these football programs.
