I've seen footage in the past of Southern & Texas Southern doing it when they had the heavier drums and sometimes in "Funk Train" sessions. but outside of that. its not done on the field anymore..

Check out the snares in Step 2's .. Our snares used to do this stuff in high school. but now it's RARELY done... you'd think it would be done more often Now...it's like an "old custom". now

  • I've never seen that done, good ish tho.

  • I think those are the only two in the SWAC that "kick on eight"...and possibly elsewhere. But...the snares DID kick on eight at TxSou back before Prof Thornton added it to the rest of the band when they got the burnt rose unis. I cannot really think of any other HBCU'S that kick on eight.
    • maybe so
    • yeah I was gonna say "Kick On 8" but I didn't think folks would understand LOL
  • The kick on 8 was very clean, I wonder where they used for time purposes or just flash!
    • My bad, just saw this. Well...time AND flash. A la Michigan state. UofM's kick on eight is/was slightly different I believe...don't believe they flash like that anymore or haven't in YEARS.
Butler went to UofM before he came to Texas Southern.
  • Because now the focus is on the stands and details are lacking on the field now. It's evident.

  • what the hell is a kick on 8 lol
