Benefits for staying In-State
1.Usually lower coast so less financial debt for you. (Many don't think of this until it's to late. Not to say that In State Students don't get loan after loan after loan and just dump themselves in debt, some do).
2.Family can come to many of your games
3.Not far away from home, really depends on the area.
4.Strengthens In State Universities and Bands
5.Many friends might stay in state so you will probably have more people to hang with.
Benefits for going Out-Of-State
1.Seeing other places than your own state
2.Different culture of people, more than likely
3.Being far away from family so they won't make an unannounced trip to your university..
4.Going somewhere different to create a legacy of your own.
5.Out of State Fee Waived that's if the University or Band has that luxury. (Keep in mind to offset costs you can also try for scholarships.
Mind you it all depends on the band and school you are apart of so i'm talking in general. Many things very for the person.

Personally, I dont have an out of state choice unless it was an HBCU choice. I'm staying close to home and going to University of Houston because they have multiple programs to suit what I might want to major in..main one is Pharmacy(Pharmacology)
There is not anythign cheap about UoH mainly because they are a growing campus and it is a very very very cultural campus. and I am going into their band program...morei nterested in Jazz and Classical ensembles.
but you are correct on both sides. but money is the main issue! my chem/physics teacher has a son attending Georiga Tech and he pays $$$$$$ for him. But I really suggest to many seniors, look for the school who has your major and is well known for it then match your band style with it.

yeah, even qualify for grants!! But I can not stand people who sit there and accept a C or a D..even Failure. Some people just really dont care at all. Take care of business, quit the 6 day a week party. only party should be going to on a weekly basis is God's Party! Go for As, Bs are acceptable. Especially for those who dream of graduate/professional school, need a damn good GPA...Me, i need a 3.35 to get into Pharmacy school, I currently have a 3.0(just started college classes in the fall along with going to high school) Im hitting the books twice as hard because I'm taking easy @$$ courses, when i start taking ORganic Chemistry, Micro Biology, analytical Chemistry and all that good stuff.
Strive for As in your basics that way if you accidently slip up on a tougher class, It will nto affect you as much. Same thing for high school FRESHMAN!! GRADES MATTER AFTER JUNIOR HIGH!!!!!!!!
