  • My two cents coming from a band who plays all corps bands during the football season...throw in some marches, few songs like Malaguena, The Horse, etc Incorporate these things in the band's book and show out against these bands. i remember my freshman year, we threw in Them Basses against a band whos director called us straight trash because we played Michael Jackson music at UIL the previous year...it really shut him up. But find some of the music they don't play but is still part of their criteria and play it against them.

and as well...get rid of a few easy blowing tunes that do kinda make our programs look bad.
  • Smart man

  • I disagree,..

We played this, Storm In Sunshine March, Brasses To the Forre,. and many more

  • That Royal boy on to sumthin.....

But for real alot of that comes from those directors. You can't down a whole style just because some don't sound the way they should. This last thing that happened in NOLA is a prime example of what alot of those corps directors are trying to say. At first people was judging on how LOUD the bands were instead of how they sound. . Also alot of that IS based on racism. The ones that always talk bad about HBCU's and not the Michigan/Penn/Ohio States. call themselves out to be racist automatically to me. Stay away from SHSU! I had some directors come out of there when I was in high school and they could write a book about how showstyle was wrong...

In Texas you can't just get by playing radio/stand music....Not too many bands strickly doing that here and if they are they barely have a program...

I got an Idea. If I was a band director I would try and see what the other (corpstyle) bands stand tunes were (if they have any) and I would teach my kids to play it back to them when we played them in a game. when i was in high school we played Brazoswood (I think) and they played Don't Fear the Reaper and some other 70 and 80's classic rock songs....
  • in the 3A division, the bands who regularly play royal...would play songs from Drumline...then get booed after we play some crap i always hated playing lol. Like Vice Versa...seriously?? yeah its a power song but must be thrown out due to how easy it is...I'm saying our program aint perfect nor trash but we in the middle. and yes i do agree, alot of it does deal with racism! We played Giddings in the playoffs and after our halftime show...their crowd BOOED us because we playe some RKelly and a lil bit of Michael Jackson...walking by the stands all you hear is the N word...and me being the ONLY white male in our band...I hate hearing it so much becuase I am apart of this outstanding program who would like to support all races to play in our program but everything turned around because the white people who used to play in our band hated how we did things...they wanted to be lazy n do the Heel to Toe.

People wear shocked to even see me in a uniform for Royal. So i know where you are coming from. and Note...first time we been booed in 15 years...even when we was a Corps band...find ways to show them out.

and one more thing..ALL showbands beat corps bands in one thing...we actually memorize our music to perfection...they carry around their music on their horns every perofmance...very TACKY
