Hinds judge rules for former J-Settes

Hinds judge rules for former J-Settes
The Clarion-Ledger 9:53 p.m. CST January 5, 2016

A Hinds County judge has ruled in favor of six former members of Jackson State University's Prancing J-Settes.

Judge Jeff Weill ruled the students should be permitted to return to the dance squad and a decision by administrators barring them from future participation should be lifted. In his order Weil also said the students should continue to receive scholarships associated with the dance squad and a $300 fine cleared from their student accounts, WLBT reported.

Edna Jones Stringer, an attorney and mother of one of the suspended J-Settes, said nine members of the J-Settes were booted from the 16-member squad in June after a hazing allegation was made. The case was filed on behalf of six of the booted members.

Weill said the six former members should return to the squad for this academic year but the students should undergo the same try-out procedures for further participation. The ruling also states there was no documentation on the specific allegations and no testimony from the former J-Settes who made the hazing allegation during disciplinary proceedings.

  • Well, if they try-out and don't get selected, they can file another lawsuit, retaliation.

  • That'd be beyond petty lol, but I'm sure they'll make it. Those girls are too talented to pass over.

  • So whats going on with the other three members, are they not interested in returning?

  • No, they cannot sue... On the other hand, yes they can, but it would be thrown out... The ruling is granted for them to be able to return, hence the option to audition... The courts do not control the audition process, nor the selections... The ruling was granted in their favor that they can audition, as candidates new and vets do alike each season... The suspended girls, were suspended indefinitely from auditioning, and that is what has been overturned... Their spots on the squad yet remains un-guaranteed, just as it is with all candidates that audition from season to season.

  • Good news for the girls who advocated but I won't be surprised if those that try out don't make it. Too much drama.

  • So can they return and perform for the honda? Or they off till next season
  • I think they would disrupt the chemistry between the current J-Settes squad if they returned, I say No.

  • I know Morgan is about to BEAST on them.  I cannot wait!

  • I highly doubt that... J-sette auditions are usually held in March or April... The only girls that will perform for Honda are the girls that made this past season's squad, that have performed all season... I am sure the suspended ladies will have to wait until this season's auditions, to perform again for the 2016-17 season; hence if they are selected.

  • Aside from Chloe, who all is apart of the selection process?
