honda battle of the bands changes

If you were know in charge of the honda what changes would you make to it and why?1. turn it into a competition and require that it be at least 10 min long2. invite bands who deserve to go instead of just by conference.3.make the competition in new york so more crowd will attend which equals bigger publicity which equals more money for the band who comes in first. Also please do not comment on my changes, I just want to hear what you would change if you have anything to change.

  • Def wouldn't move it because it would cost more money to travel up there. It's in a good location already.

2 or 3 rounds in the stands would be gr8 tho if there were only like 5-6 bands worth listening to.
  • Most shows are 10-12 minutes.

If it was a competition, some of the more popular band directors wouldn't bring their group. In their mind, "my band never comes in 2nd to anybody"...even if they were the sorriest isht on the planet that year.

Atlanta is a bandhead town, is centrally located for most HBCUs (since they're mostly in the South), and the Georgia Dome sells out every year.

The Georgia Dome is a covered stadium. That's important, because January weather is a trip sometimes. One year, Atlanta had an ice storm, and everything was shut down and pushed back a day. Had it been an open-air stadium, it would probably been a week or more, depending on the Dome's availability...and only half the people would have come back.

I like that each of the HBCU conferences is represented. I would have preferred if they had the 4 conference winners, the independent winner, and 5 at-large bands instead of 3, to keep 10 bands. You'd have more powerhouses at the same time. The smaller groups might have a harder time getting voted in, though.
  • I agree with everything you said. O' yea I remember being trapped in those Hotels during the Ice-storm. That was crazy. talk about battles in the hotels.
